rice milk has always given me a sore throat...something kinda rough or silty about it, at least to me. it's like drinking sandpaper. maybe i should give it another go, though...last time i tried it was years ago.

Hey Calhoun! hug

The Mistress teaches workshops on whole-foods nutrition and herbal medicine; here's her twocents:

  • Whole cows milk is better than low fat & non fat cows milk b/c it undergoes less processing, has less additives & more nutrients.
True. It's generally more healthy, being closer to its natural state, but if you're trying to lose weight, guzzling it is not really going to help. lol

  • Soy milk is dangerous b/c our bodies don't digest it well.
Soy milk is processed food. We veggie types don't like to admit that, but it's true. Most brands are also full of synthetic vitamins and minerals, some of which are hard for the body to assimilate. Having it on your cereal once a day is fine, but more than that I don't really recommend.

  • Rice milk is the best milk to drink.
Um, based on what? Unsweetened rice milk made from brown rice is probably the easiest to digest, but it's lacking in protein and nutrients.

  • Low fat & Non fat cheeses are worse for your body than regular cheese b/c they undergo more processing & contain lots of additives.
YES. I HATE this low-fat craze. It's nothing but unnatural, fake food that your body doesn't know what the hell to do with. People just need to exercise some willpower and eat small amounts of the real thing, instead of inhaling mass quantities of fake shit. (Yes, this is how I talk when I give workshops.) biggrin

I personally love almond milk and oat milk. They're minimally processed and taste good. The problem is, nothing is going to taste like cow's milk. If that's what you're looking for, you will be disappointed. This shit really shouldn't be called anything-milk, because it sets people up to be disappointed. That said, almond beverage is the shit. biggrin

Oh, and I forgot to echo Mach's statements about organic dairy.

Whole, organic milk is the least processed and closest to its natural state. Non-organic milk is full of byproducts of conventional dairy farming practices, including but not limited to: pesticides, antibiotics, and artificial hormones. It's like instead of Nesquik, stirring some Raid, unprescribed penicillin and super-estrogen pills into your glass of moo juice. Not pretty. lol

I'm a firm believer in all things in moderation, and that includes artificial sweeteners and fats and such. At this point, I'd say to focus on which is more damaging to your health, a few extra pounds or loads of artificial crap.
Losing weight long term means changing your diet and exercise routine for the rest of your life.
Personally, I do eat/drink some artificial sweeteners and non-fat stuff, but again, only in moderation. (I have the whole organic stuff in moderation too. smile )

Calhoun, have you considered juicing fruits and vegetables instead of drinking sodas?

My understanding of juicing -- especially if used as a fast -- is that it even cleanses the body on a cellular level! omfg

I think I'm going to try this, this week!

I've heard of that but I just don't have the time... sigh

Or won't take the time... confused

I could use my Org time... eek

Does anyone have an opinion on the following notions:

Whole cows milk is better than low fat & non fat cows milk b/c it undergoes less processing, has less additives & more nutrients. ONLY consume Organic if you must consume cows milk

Soy milk is dangerous b/c our bodies don't digest it well. I have read that only fermented soy products are human body friendly ... dont know much more

Rice milk is the best milk to drink. shrug

Low fat & Non fat cheeses are worse for your body than regular cheese b/c they undergo more processing & contain lots of additives.ONLY consume organic cheese

i've never heard a thing about "artery clogging additives" in soy milk. this is the first i've ever heard of such a thing. is there a source for this?

No, but I did have to revise that "statement", I was getting things a bit mixed up. Basically she was telling me that she learned soy milk is difficult for our bodies to digest but I can't remember her whole schpiel (sp?) on it confused

I'm basically talking out of my ass Anx biggrin

Yet still searching for feedback on said "ass talking" hmmm

ROFLMAO! I adore you....

Organic all the way.. whether it is cows milk or soy- have to watch they genetically modify soybeans..
The sort of switched to soy because I have never like cows milk but there is no calcium in soy milk so I worry about the woman that switch that need their calcium.
I buy organic 1% cows milk for my husband for his cereal. I normally do not have a use for milk unless for cooking or baking. Sometimes I crave a glass of chocolate milk- that's when I buy Silk chocolate soy milk.

I use soy milk for cereal and baking but don't drink it straight altho some of the chocolate brands are pretty good.

Yeah, like 8th Continent's chocolate soy milk. drool Chocolate milk or any other flavored milk like vanilla or strawberry is the only milk I could drink straight. I hate regular milk of any kind....whether it's from an animal, rice, or soy.
