psh!...
With all due respect, Mel Gibson didn't do anything I haven't seen many Orgers on Prince.org do (and a few on this thread in particular do) in a similar fashion. Mel Gibson spoke about a certain group of people he doesn't care for, yes...but, I've seen Orgers mention a certain "style" of people that they do like "best"...and be praised for it. Tolerated. What's the difference? Etiquette...?

I attend things and laugh and have a great time but if real info is attempted to be passed I holler STOP I don't want to know... I just want to attend his shows and enjoy the music... don't mess it up for me with details.
I am definately no saint, Muse. BUT.....
I am sorry to hear this and shocked... although I have never shouted an anti anything but anxy type of remark... ( Well ok and maybe Althom) I cant say I am guilt free of appearances at times.... IE.. if the pics of me at events were used out of context NO ONE would believe that I was actually a solid 40 year old mother of 2 who is celibate now would they. DISCLAIMER: I am in no way stating that Mr Mel did not make these remarks so save it! :stop: I dig art deeply but if you get the stories behind say Rembrandt you find out ( supposedly) he unlawfully had his wife detained in a mental hospital far longer then was prescribed... etc.... also that most of the Christian paintings are just that and done by non believers and mockers etc..... I dig the art.. NOT the individuals... I have learned to dissect the message and NOT the man as mankind falls short but the truth is still out there. Another example: I am mad for Martin Luther King Jr. Some have come to say that perhaps I am unaware that he in-fact was a womanizer and unfaithful blah blah ... Maybe he was and MAYBE HE WASN'T... but nothing and no one can undo the truth and brilliance in his speeches... I choose to follow the message and not the man... One mans life can and will take many turns... Saints are rare.... I hope at the end of my days not to be devalued for the inacurracys and errors and remembered for the the stuff that mattered. If someone wants to hold me accountable for the things I have done or do now, I am perfectly okay with that. I am into things other people are not (which I do not need to get into ) but if someone is not into those same things, then that's cool, too. If people don't want to have anything to do with me because of the things I do, I'll be amongst people who accept me the way I am, faults included. We let shit slide too much in this society and wonder later why we are so fucked up. Mel Gibson is a bigot and I hate to even say that because I was a fan of the guy for so long. People need to stand up and say these types of things are not okay. We kind of validate people by supporting their bad behavior. We let people be racist, we let people be bigots, we let people be things that can detrimental to society as a whole. Why do we accept these things?

i think there's a difference between the things someone does in his/her personal life and the things they intentionally put out into the world.
if MLK had an affair or if woody allen fell in love with his adoptive daughter or if john lennon had a drug problem, etc., etc., these of course aren't admirable things, but in my opinion, that's between the individual and their family...if they weren't public figures, we wouldn't be hearing about this stuff anyway. now, for someone to go out and say detrimental things in public or for someone to support people or things that are harmful or hateful or negative, that is something else altogether. it could be said that the mel gibson situation blurs the line because it's not like he was holding a press conference when he was making his drunken comments...but on the other hand, the man needs to handle his business and not get so drunk that he outs himself as the ass he is. i guess i'm saying that with artists or activists/advocates, we should try to separate the message from the messenger to a certain extent...though gibson has certainly showed his true colors one too many times. [Edited 8/2/06 7:55am] On the news this morning, someone said alcohol is "The Great Revealer", and he's right. All of Mel's apologies are hollow words. Deep down, the man despises Jews. I'd have more respect for him if came out and admitted his true feelings and why he thinks that way.

I can't wait for Mad Mel to go on Oprah. You know he'll start blubbering, profess his love for the Jews, and give Oprah a big hug. The morons in the audience will clap, and all will be forgiven.

I think this person is trying to equate being attracted to a certain physical type with racism (in which case, they should check back in once they have the rocks removed from their head). And I love the dismissal of a racist statement with, "Mel Gibson spoke about a certain group of people he doesn't care for, yes...". I mean, the KKK often speak about a certain group of people they don't care for, but - hey - no big whoop.

I remembered thinking back when all that Tom Cruise shit started happening, that I would love to fake a downward spiral half that great if by some fluke I ever reached his level of fame. For the first and only time in my life, I was a fan of his.
Mel Gibson is a real shit of a dude, though. ~ I'D BUY THAT FOR A DOLLAR ~
