Have Political Affiliations Ever Kept You From Going Out With Someone?

I like Party Girl 2.0 alot, but she is a Republican. This might be tricky if politics comes up. shrug

OK, I just realized that this should maybe go in politics and religion, but I'm not really talking about what the differences are or who is right. Just if it's been a problem for anyone. I guess James Carville and his wife are famous political opposites, and it hasn't seemed to bother them.

A "friend" of mine (I suppose she is, hence the quotes) expressed some strong sentiments against immigrants in a discussion a few months ago. She also had a knack for soon tiring of "deep" conversations (like, 5 minutes and she was done). So, the fact that she would be so strongly opposed to immigrants worried me.

it's very hard for me to date right wingers. if they are socially liberal but fiscally conservative, that's one thing. if they are conservative down the line... it probably won't last long

I would have to say that I would be best suited with someone who tends to lean to the left as I do.
As long as this person was open minded and shared my love for the earth as whole and did not put me down for my liberal beliefs.. we might be ok.
I have been blessed to be with partners that were like minded politically..

I stopped dating someone for that exact reason.

um, I'm not political, so who cares.

BTW, anyone who is terribly political isn't someone I want to be friends with anyway.

There's just too much going on in my world to take things so seriously.

it depends on what the person means by "republican".

(spoken like a true clinton democrat, ho ho ho)

anyone who buys into ALL the rhetoric of a political party out of some kind of loyalty is someone who kinda creeps me out. if party girl has her own mind, she'll be conservative on some things and liberal about others and radical on some things and reactionary on others. that's what's called HAVING ONE'S OWN MIND.

if she's a fan of coulter, limbaugh, hannity, etc. - RUN FOR THE HILLS.

i'd say the same if she was a fan of al franken or air america, though. nod

Yeah like people probably would dump me over polotics. Cuz I don't know ANYTHING about them, and don't care too. And that pisses people off. And I really do understand why it does. But yet, I don't care. razz

BTW, we are so in sync on this. I don't really like people who just wanna be part of a team, instead of having their own opinions.

Not really, although I've winced when I've heard some of my friends' right wing sentiments. I don't particularly racist and discriminatory jokes amusing either. However, political orientation isn't a major concern to me when befriending someone. I have friends on all sides of the political spectrum.

Exactly.. can't we all just get along already??

peace

For me it is not so much about politics- it is about the world and having respect and understanding for everyone on this planet. I could not be with somone that thought the world only revolved around them..
I want someone who wants to make the world a better place not destroy it.

Depends on the beliefs, I suppose. A bit of difference is natural, but if someone is diametrically opposed to something I strongly and firmly believe in, there might be a problem.

it can lead to interesting conversations, as long as you keep it cool, and agree to disagree.
