Now THIS I would see

Kazakhstan’s least favourite “son” will be starring in the movie with the longest title this year in the Toronto International Film Festival’s Midnight Madness series.

Borat: Cultural Learnings Of America For Make Benefit Glorious Nation Of Kazakhstan was one of 10 dark-edged and cultish movies announced for the Midnight Madness series today.

A feature-length mockumentary directed by Larry Charles, Borat stars British comic Sacha Baron Cohen as the popular fish-out-of-water Kazakhstani reporter (part of Cohen’s Da Ali G Show) who travels America and provokes bizarre responses with rude questions in fractured English and earnest greetings like “I wish to make a romance inside of you.”

Popular, that is, except in Kazakhstan, where Borat’s increasing profile and perceived slurs against the country have led to threats of a lawsuit. (On Cohen’s Borat website - http://www.borat.tv/response.htm - Borat denies any connection to Cohen and says “I fully support my government’s decision to sue this Jew.")
