By that I mean everything except food, clothes, toilet paper and other stuff you basically have to have.

Mine was unusually unnecessary; an inflatable swan's head that you were supposed to attach to your groin. It was just so damn Japanese that I couldn't resist. Plus it only cost me 80 cents.

The latest unnecessary but still reasonably useful item I bought was probably batteries. But I used them for something really unnecessary; a miniature UFO catcher that I'd won on a real UFO catcher. How postmodern, eh?
