if you start doing lines from it....its really hard to stop. confused

its addictive.

I remember being in high school and having to review it for my school newspaper. I went with my mother and her sister. The scene when Mister is making Nettie leave is when my mother and aunt LOST IT. When they were young, they had to live in foster care for a year. They said it was like watching a scene of their lives.

Its the one scene that has me in tears all the time.

i've read the book and seen the movie. the book is better (as books always are). the movie is really good but i think it was too deep and hard to understand if the audience did not read the book and understood just what was really going on. which is why it didn't do so well.

MOST of the time the book is better. Although it's really difficult to prove that, since books and movies are entirely different.

But for me, in the case of "The Color Purple," I think the movie is much better.

This is how ingrained that movie is into the consciousness of many black Americans:

Sunday, when my church let out, I was talking a minister friend of mine. All of a sudden, she let out with:

"CELIE!!! CELIE!!!!"

She started running toward a good friend of hers, whom she hadn't seen in years. As they hugged and smiled, they laughed at my friend's outburst.

"Everything you done to me is already been done to you"
Whoopi with her ugly mouth twisted like a spring.

But seriously, the scene where she reunites with her children, playing pattercake in the field made me cry like a little baby as a fifteen year old boy. It was very embarassing for me as I went to see the movie with my homeboys. Couldn't live that one down.
