It's a nice day for a White Wedding...

Greetings everyone,

My best friend Lindsey, and her man Jordan are getting hitched today. As happy as I am for them, I am stressed as hell. I've been nominated to emcee, as well as DJ the shin dig. The DJ thing is not a problem, it's that I am not very outspoken, or funny, and I am worried that this will be expected of me today during the reception. I have prepared somewhat with a poem that I will read, but I am looking for some further advice, and assistance. If anyone has any tastefull wedding jokes, stories, games, or ideas they would care to share I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks for your help in advance to all of those who reply.

Moxy

I quite understand your anxiety over public speaking. It's a daunting prospect to be the center of attention that way.

Though it is easier said than done, try to relax. Continually remind yourself this is a celebration, and everyone there is there out of love for the marrying couple - this is not a hostile crowd. They are family, and friends. Remembering this might help you to not feel quite as nervous or afraid.

If, because of stress, you find yourself blanking out on what to say at any given time, don't mentally scramble to come up with a sparkling, witty remark or hilarious joke, as that will only cause even more stress. Just be sincere. Speak from your heart. Even a very brief, yet sincere well-wish, or comment on the bride or anecdote about the bride and groom (if you are a friend and know them well enough) will sound better than would awkward silence or a rambling attempt at a rehearsed joke.

Lastly, if at any point you find yourself at a total loss at what to say or do, be honest with the crowd. Tell them you've not done this before and would like a little help with suggestions, or ideas for games, or ask if anyone would like to come up and recount a story of the couple's first meeting or their times together. People are surprisingly willing to jump in and help in that type of situation if you let them know you require a bit of assitance.

You will do fine, I've no doubt. Just be yourself, and speak from your heart and don't try to worry about 'performing' too much.
