Do you spoil your kids?

I took my son school clothes shopping on sunday, he doesn't have to wear uniforms anymore now that he's going into middle school, so he was excited.

Well, a few hundred dollars later, I find myself wondering if I spoil him too much. I mean, he's not stuck up, or disrespectful, or anything like that, he's a great person. To be honest though, he gets just about anything he wants, and I wonder if that is a good thing or not.

Here's the little dork

Are they going to grow up to be those spoiled adults that we all hate? I mean, I think I provide them with the talks to know that it is a privelege to have these things, but I still worry.....

My daughter Jasmine was spoiled rotten by 4 grandmothers!

Wen she was 5 one of her granmothers painted her ENTIRE house (inside and out) pink because that was Jasmine's favorite color!!

Oh yeah, I adore her too! She's my bestest friend!

I was raised as a very spoiled child. I honestly think that I turned out okay. I never gave my parents any problems. The only thing is that later on in life things start to become reality. "I have to pay for Electricity, Water, Garbage, phone bill, cable? Huh?"

hmmm My kids don't go without anything they need ....but very really do they get brought things for no reason...only birthdays and xmas or clothes when they are NEEDED .....they r great kids....I don't think its a good thing to give them everything....they have both learnt to save and aim towards things they want smile (and hey that's life..I would rather set them up now to be sucessful and see u have to work hard for the things u want ...than have them find out after years of spending and living in the gratification of the moment)

I dunno, Chris. You say your son isn't disrespectful or stuck-up - sounds like you've got a good kid. nod You've done well there.

If he starts acting up or assuming he can have these things whenever he wants, then maybe that's the time to start worrying. But it seems like you've instilled some good values - and everyone deserves a treat now and then. wink

The only thing I do that may be above and beyond the call of duty, is coaching all my kids' sports teams....

Right now I am coaching my oldest sons baseball team... we won again last night and are now 9-1 on the season... we play in the Tournament Championship tonight and the League Championship tomorrow..... whew.....

Buy him clothes that you liked when you were growing up. It builds character in a kid. My parents did that to me. neutral

Yep, I spoil my little girl something rotten. Far more than I should. But it's difficult not to when she's so beautiful.
