It isn't that I can not follow along, playing, while others play. I can do that well enough. I meant, I'm a strange bird. I can't stand egosentric people who think thier shit is gold even know it's not all that. If your shit is truly gold then you have the right to be egosentric, but if you are just doing it to cover some insecurity charactor flaw, that's not cool.

I'm a leader who doesn't like to lead, and I am not a follower.

That part doesn't make you a strange bird. Those are the same reasons it took me so long to find a band. Too many "uncompromising artists" who'd never get anywhere because they wouldn't compromise. People think they can act like superstars before they've done anything at all.

But when you do find a decent group of people who aren't so uptight, but just want to play a bit, it's great fun.

I did, but I had to compromise a bit, too.

and how did you achieve such a lofty goal? I know, it isn't easy. where does one find these cool people to play with. The coolest one's i've met were bogged down in life issues.

It's like any relationship, it kind of fell from the sky. We were playing 3 hour shows within a couple months of me joining.

The compromises I made are that the other singer isn't very good, we do mostly covers, and I don't think any of them have lofty goals, whereas I do. So while it's fun, now it's becoming frustrating. But I am sooooo happy I have gotten this experience on which to build.

I think part of why it's been so easy is that at 34 I am by far the youngest member. It's a different story working with 20 year olds.

Oh, did I mention our first show was at a nudist club?

Our drummer just replaced his Pearls with a DW offshoot--their cheaper line--and he's real excited about them.

If noise is a concern, consider electronic drums.

The better models (such as those manufactured by Roland) have quick trigger speeds. Though rolls can still be tricky, depending on the program and skill level.

The number is the circumference, the lower the number the larger the circumference. The letter is for the application "A' is for orchestra "B" is for band, "S" is for street- marching bands., rock is for rock.
5A and 5B are smaller than 7A.
2B is a good beginner size, but you'll figure out what you like. Get a variety of sizes and tip shapes to see what gives you the sound you want.Once you figure thatout you can buy them in bundles.

Could be the same brand, but I can see the difference in the way the toms are held. His are held in a kind of "floating" system rather than the bar that's bolted right into the wood.

pdp is the DW "budget" line.
Your friend probably got the FXR series or above.
She got the EZ series (rock bottom entry level)
I wasn't taking any chances in case this turns out to be a passing fancy. confused

Yeah, you don't get a Les Paul for air guitar players. That's the nicest thing about being in a band is you can suddenly justify all kinds of outrageous purchases!

I'm glad you're doing your part to create some new drummers--a much needed commodity!
