[Edited 7/23/06 19:21pm] Yeah, I always had aspirations to play trumpet or sax but my asthma was too bad back then and it was just such a struggle. That and the lack of musical talent. 
Same as me. I always thought the sax would be such a cool instrument to play. Imagine: wherever you are in the world, you can make friends just by playing the 'Cagney & Lacey' theme tune. 
It's probably too late now - I didn't have asthma then but I do now. 
As for the lips thing, that's why I never got to play trumpet or sax. My music teachers wanted me to play an instrument and - when I chose those - told me I had 'thin lips'.  (On a big mouth ). So they asked me to play the cornet instead. It was great - it got me out of P.E.
3 years later, still not practising and with guys coming into the class who were years younger than me, it was obvious that I was useless. They'd come in and start tootling away like Maceo; I'd be lucky if I could manage a 'parp'. In the end, my tutor said "You're not practising, are you?" and kicked me out. | |

I cleaned my closet out a couple of weeks ago and found my flute from band in there. M I'm not sure how it'd sound as a band song...it was just piano sheet music. Some marching bands pick some of the most off the wall songs to play though. I remember a rival school would always play that song called "Peaches" by Presidents of the United States. They made it sound really good. Our band would always sing along whenever they played. Our band would always play this Mary J Blige song. I personally thought it was a horrible choice, because it was a slow song. University of Tennessee's trademark song is actually a Led Zeppelin song. Oh my god, and the black colleges are always on point with song choices.
