someone posted a thread in the past few days, about listening to certain song, to go with a certain emotion you were feeling at the time...it leads me to ask you this..
When I was in my teens and early 20's, I read the lyrics voraciously, to find words of wisdom to help me deal with what I was feel at a given time...i would read jackson browne's lyrics, or bruces (like anyone could make heads or tails about his words)..the beatles, Prince, etc...and when I found the thoughts expressed by the artists, it made me feel better about what I was going through..
I really don't connect to lyrics anymore. I don't buy music because the songs have messages. I buy them becuase I like the music and the production..are the guitars clear..is the bass thumping..etc.

How about you?...are the lyrics still important to you, in todays music at this point in your life

For me, it's almost ALWAYS that lyrics draw me into an artist or band. Much more so when I was a kid, but it's still that way. It was years before I could even like a band if I didn't appreciate the lyrical content. It was actually surprising to me that I was able to get into Sigur Ros, considering no one knows what the lyrics actually are. But at the same time, I think there's a bit of me that loves that too. I'd love to study linguistics, I think.

Lyrics are still very important to me.

I hardly ever get attracted to an artist by his lyrics- always dig the music first. I think sometimes music can touch you in a way the most meanungful, beautiful words will never come close to. But I always read the lyrics too, as I'm also a poetry lover and way too curious not to know what my fave songs are about.

I'm all about the lyrics. Well not ALL, but lyrics are pretty key for me.

Now that I think about it- there have been several songs that I really fell in love with strictly because the music moved me..

lyrics usually drive 90% of the music I like.

The video on my myspace page right now has GREAT lyrics!!! Turn that FUCKING RADIO OFF!!!
