So, my girlfriend asked me to marry her. . .

Unfortunately, I thought she was kidding (for a variety of reasons), so I basically laughed.

Later I realize that she totally wasn't kidding. boxed

I'm such an ass. bawl

I don't know. There's something so unsatisfying about the whole idea of marrying somebody when I'd have to run off to Canada to do it, and the place where I actually live wouldn't recognize it as real. neutral

I've encountered this kind of weirdness around marriage before, in a different context. . . I'm exhausted by the whole damn thing. Fuck marriage and all of the stupid bullshit that surrounds it.

Except that she hasn't had my cynicism-generating experiences, so she likes the idea. Which is good enough for me. When I realized she was serious ( lol ), I told her that I would love to marry her. mushy

So, could y'all cross your fingers for me that the Washington supreme court decides that my rights are the same regardless of the gender of the person I love?

Thanks. sigh

I know.

I'm spending the rest of my life with her. This simply feels like a fact. I can't explain it. It just IS. All of the confusion I've felt in trying to understand commitment over the years. . . poof. . . gone. I'm not contemplating making a commitment. That implies some sort of decision-making process. It's just the reality of what's there.

And I know it sounds completely insane at this point, but. . .well. . . it is what it is.

However, it ain't good enough for my government 'cause neither of us has a dick.

I've given this issue tons of thought for a long time, but with it now being personal in a new and different way, it's back at the forefront for me. And it just pisses me off. I wish I could hand her a better world, where she can really have the very simple thing that she wants.

nod

I don't know what's taking them so long. confuse There was a rumor a few months back that the court was going to issue a decision ordering the state legislature either to legalize same-sex marriage and/or create something like Vermont's civil unions. Furthermore, this decision was allegedly going to be issued in time for the legislature to enact/repeal any necessary statutes before the end of the last Regular Session on March 8, 2006. But that date has come and gone, the next Regular Session isn't until January 2007, and we still don't have a decision. neutral

If Washington does become the second state to legalize same-sex marriage, I would expect that one done in Canada would be recognized here, at least at the state level. So there is the Vancouver option. Of course, whether this (i.e., being forced to go to another country) is acceptable to you is something you'd have to decide, if you haven't already.

Anyway, with all that said, I'm very happy for you two. hug

I am sorry that you and your partner cannot just go get married like I can. It does not seem fair and I do not understand it. I hope someday that changes and everyone in love can get married as they please.
Much love and happiness to you both!

Sweetheart, I believe that's beautiful, and I could hope wish and pray for you to get what you need from the government, but the truth of the matter is, I wouldn't hold your breath. We are living in a world with closed minds in power.

I've always thought is so stupid, that when two are in love, they can only be reconized legally if they are opp-sexed. In a world where Men and Women getting married has lost all meaning, closed minded fool wish to "uphold the santuary of marrige", what a crock of shit.
News: Prince pulls his head out his ass in the last moment.
Bad News: Prince wasted too much quality time doing so.
You have those internalized issues because you want to, you like to, stop.

Not at all. The rumor about the WA Supreme Court sending the matter to the legislature to work out the details was merely speculation. In fact, it looks as if the decision will come out by September:

The Captain will not be happy until any consenting adult can marry any other consenting adult that they choose. And the Captain has a lot of influence. I know some hookers who know some lawmakers. I can pull some strings.
