There was a fire at the power station this morning and the whole neighborhood went down. It's only about a thousand degrees in Fla! This is how the day went...

7am- Wake up, no power.

7:30- Get up to have a bath before the water goes cold.

8:30- Run to store for batteries, (radio, TV, lantern) and buy a battery powered fan. Oops! forgot the fan.

10:30- Go to church, (air cond. ). Surely there will be power when I come back home.

12pm- No power. Go back to store for fan and more batteries, Youngest son has deserted me for greener pastures.

1pm- Eat peanut butter and jelly sandwich and have a nap, Power will be on when I wake up.

3pm- No power. Food is thawing in freezer.

3:10- Call oldest son to see if I can come and cook. No answer.

4pm- No answer.

5:10- Oldest son finally turns up. Says come over in an hour.

6pm- Arrive at son's place,(a batchelor). Kitchen is a disaster! Give lecture.

6:20- Clean entire kitchen, search for pots and utensils under piles of papers.

6:35- Finally get food cooking, decide eldest son is a caveman.

7:30- Food is done. Eat dinner from mismatched plates with serving spoons, drink juice from a jar, wipe hands on a bath towel. I am terrified to go into the bathroom!

8pm- Youngest son calls. Power is on!

8:20- Thank oldest son, give him a hug and say "I love you". Ask when he is getting married.

At least I had a nice long chat with my son and he even played me some of the new music he's been working on.

That's mostly what we talked about. He's cute, and there's lots of girls interested, but he wants to settle down and he complains that he can't find a girl who's serious enough.

The thing is, when the hurricanes come we expect it and get prepared but today caught me totally off guard. I kept thinking the power would come back on any minute. I called FPL around 3 and all I got was "duh, we dunno, but we're very sorry".
