STOP taking yourself so seriously!!! How many time and in how many ways is this good advice to everyone? News: Prince pulls his head out his ass in the last moment.
Bad News: Prince wasted too much quality time doing so. You have those internalized issues because you want to, you like to, stop.

What exactly does that mean, anyway...taking yourself seriously?...

Well....the way I've seen this being good advice for myself and others is when a person is being perhaps a bit, um, paranoid about people talking about them or how they're perceived by others. It has often grounded myself and others to be "checked" on this way of thinking, and to be reminded that most people have better things to do than stand around talking about me all day, or intentionally making my life miserable.
In this way, it can be good to stop taking myself so seriously.

As a woman, I know what I want in a partner... As a parent, I know what I expect from my child... A a human being, I know what I wish of others... If I don't take myself seriously, most of the time, why should anybody else?...Just asking.

Well I've found that if you take your self too seriously, others will think your a joke. How seriously I guess is the question should one take themselfs? And maybe you shouldn't worry about how seriously others take you. Other take what they can get. News: Prince pulls his head out his ass in the last moment.

Well I've found that if you take your self too seriously, others will think your a joke. In certain circumstances, at particular times, that's a big mistake on their part then...I wish you could ask somebody who knows me. How seriously I guess is the question should one take themselfs? When I say what I mean, I'm as serious as a heart attack. And, there is no question in my mind about it. And maybe you shouldn't worry about how seriously others take you. I'm a parent. Other take what they can get. I agree, Mick, because I'm not responsible for everyone.

For you see, subconsciously we choose our forms of expression that speaks volumes of what we truly are doing. News: Prince pulls his head out his ass in the last moment.

I think taking oneself seriously can have an unnerving effect on others -- particularly those who don't think you should take yourself as seriously as you do.
When you operate in a way that demands more respect than others are used to giving, for example, you're suddenly "taking yourself too seriously" instead of merely forcing them to evaluate how they interact with others. The phrase can be synonymous with "they have an attitude problem," "they aren't a team player," etc. Maybe I'm taking this thread too seriously...
