St. Louis Blues or How I Survived a National Disaster

We were hit with two devastating storms this week (Wednesday and Friday). Almost a half million homes are without power, including mine. Thursday it was about 100 degrees. Our airport roof partially collapsed and flew onto Highway 70. Trucks were blown off of roadways. Our govenor declared a state of emergency and the national guard is here. All the major traffic lights are out. Stores and gas stations are finally getting back up and running.Me, my son and our iguana have been living like refugees trying to find a place to rest. Last night was so cold (for the iguana, not us) that we had to wrap him in blankets and try to warm him by candle light! Fortunately I was able to find a place for the iguana-he has to have special lighting and heating.
This sucks. But we were so lucky that it didn't turn into a huge tornado. There were some small twisters spotted in the area. But we're alive! Life rules! Yay for living!!

Thanks guys! grouphug Thank you so much!

I feel kinda wimpy complaining about it after all the true devastation of Katrina and the tsunamis and eartquakes and all the people living in the variuos war zones of the world, but this was the scariest thing I've ever gone through. Mainly because it was so hard to comfort my screaming son when i was just as frightened as him. He just kept screaming "Mom, let's just get out if here! Let's just leave!" I knew there was really nothing I could do and nowhere to go. We don't even have a basement to run to! He watched the gigantic trees in our yard and in our neighbor's come uprooted and crash to the ground!! We just felt so small and so helpless!

Again, thank you! And thank GOD!!

Yes!! lol But barely. wink Right now there seem to be a lot of reprecussions being played out. Sink holes and water main ruptures are popping up all over the place! Some people are being told to boil their water----but most have NO POWER! The national guard was giving out FANS to people with NO POWER!!! Go figure! We'll pull through. We're actually very lucky. I'm just so tired, mentally and physically! Thanks ZombieKitten! wink smile

Oh, Miss Lady. I am so happy to hear that you and your baby boy are alright!

I know it's not as severe as what a lot people on the planet have been going through recently, but it's still a devestating experience to shake you to the core of reality and the root of your priorities. I went through a small hurricane before and your situation sounds similar to what I experienced. In short it IS very unsettling, and once experienced, you would never wish the situation on anyone, even your worst enemies! Mother Nature when raging mad is nothing to play around with, that's for darned sure.

Keep your head up, Mama. flower
