Ocean said: Byron said: No, the 19 year old..lol Well, if you get a lower-to-midrange camera, see if it allows for you to set the shutter speed in some way (the longer the shutter stays open, the more blurry the movement will appear). Sometimes cameras have an "Action" setting, which is designed specifically for taking shots of action and movement with a minimum of blurring. The only thing is that if you're not allowed to use a flash...if not then the shutter has to stay open longer in order to make sure it allows in the correct amount of light. And with the shutter staying open longer, there's more of a chance of blurring like I said before... [Edited 7/15/06 18:33pm]

Here's one...the Canon Digital Rebel XT:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/...e&n=502394 Pertinent part: "If action photography is your specialty, the Rebel XT offers a continuous shooting mode that captures as many as 14 images as fast as three frames per second." (that means that you just hold the release button down and it takes up to 14 quick shots in succession, going as fast as taking three photos in a one-second timespan. That should freeze action rather well.)

It helps if you're not drunk when you take photos.

Well, what many sports photographers do is use an extremely fast shutter speed. This means that the camera registers very little movement but also very little light, so they usually have to compensate for that by using extremely lightsensitive film. Some digital cameras allow you to set both shutter speed and ASA (lightsensitivity), in which case you could figure out your own optimal setting. I experimented with that for fun recently and me and a friend took some pictures of each other jumping and made it look like we were hovering in the air, very much in focus. It was pretty cool (I believe the settings we used were 1/5000 of a second and 1600 ASA). If you want a simpler and cheaper camera, just look for one with an "action" setting as was previously mentioned on this thread.
