I don't want to spend to much but which would you recommend Sony NW1000 6gb Purple for £110 or an Ipod Mini or Ipod Nano?

Anyone got the sony?

I wanna buy one for my Hols!!!!!

That's a tough one. Sony is great for quality and features.


But the Ipod is just damned sexy and there are tons of after market addons.
The Ipod Nano is simply hot as hell.

if it were me, I'd wait for SONY to introduce the new player coming soon.

But I'm a SONY honk, so that's just me.

as for the ipod, the thing that freaks me out the hardest is the wiping out of the contents when you are downloading music. I have heard from more than a few people that they either lost everything on it or had to reinstall all the songs that were erased.

A select group of people have something against them for no logical reason... but they are the best supported devices BY FAR. You will find it much easier to get help, 3rd party software, add-on devices, and the like for the iPod over any other item. iPods, also, support far more audio formats than comparable devices, too, in almost all cases.

EDIT: Just remembered, there is a rumor that new iPod Nano's will be announced August 7th... take it for what it's worth.

FURTHER EDIT: Isn't the model Sony you mention one of those horrid models that use a proprietary Sony file format (MP3, etc, have to be converted before you put them on the player)?

Well, it doesn't help matters at all that they try to stuff their own proprietary audio format down your throat on several models, especially the earlier ones, and the Sonic Stage/Connect software seems to cause issues. If they could work out an agreement with Apple to make iTunes compatible with their hardware devices (and I'm not talking about the iTMS) I think it would go a long way. I don't think there's anything intrinsically wrong with the hardware itself at this point.

Looks nice but has some issues. In particular you MUST use their rather temperamental Connect software and proprietary ATRAC file format (instead of mp3, mp4, etc) to have use of all the features (like EQ control). I wouldn't want to waste time having to convert my music everytime I wanted to upload it to the device. Also, it's not even remotely as widely supported by 3rd parties as the iPod models.



The iPod mini or nano are both fine choices. They don't actively make the 'mini' model anymore but it was the #1 seller for a reason. If you can get a good deal on one (cheaper than the nano) then it's more than worth it, imo.
