I'm Nervous about MOLE REMOVAL

So , I'm going into the doctors office this afternoon to get a mole removed from my head. I'm not sure if this is just a consultation, or if the doctor will remove it on the spot.

I have a mole on my head, hidden by hair, but it's not flat so if you run a come over it, it does get caught by the comb. ill

Anyways, the mole is big enough and unsightly enough to make really short haircuts an undesirable thing. And I really want to see if I can Rock a short fauxhawk (yes, I know that is sooo 2003, but I love that haircut).

Anyways, I'm nervous about it becuase I always think I'll go into the hospital for a checkup or something, and walk out with a missing leg or arm. sigh

Has anyone had moles removed? Was it painful? Did they do it on the spot?

My wife has...she goes for a body scan every year. Usually the dermatologist can remove it right away...and usually (not just for my wife, but for everyone) they're benign. Go and have it checked Dan..it's worth it, even if it's causing Anxiety

Go to a plastic surgeon. Don't trust a dermatologist to do a good job. I had a mole removed from my back and there's a big scar there. confused

I have a skin tag on my forehead now, just below my non-hairline. Need to pay a visit to Dr. Giggles.

I have wave

It was on my jawline...the derm numbed it with an injection (that's the part that actually hurt) and then sliced it off with a razorblade/guillotine type deal and then cauterized the wound with an electric wand. It smelled like burning hair barf
Then I had to keep a bandage on it with antibiotic ointment for about 10 days so it wouldn't scar...and it didn't smile

I started noticing a mole on the back of my head, on the scalp. Of course, I had the mole for quite some time. It's one of those things you just don't notice until it becomes a liability.

I noticed, it was quite painful. I was at the hairdresser's, and she snagged her scissors on the mole. No great damage, but I noticed. Also, for some reason, the mole seemed to be getting larger over the years, as I had to start warning the hairdresser that there was a mole there. Otherwise, a too short haircut would show the mole. Also, my comb was starting to snag on the mole when I was combing.

So I decided to have it removed. It consisted of two visits: the consultation and the actual procedure. The consultation was fairly straightforward, just to evaluate what needed to be done.

The procedure was also fairly simple, although the doctor said he needed to shave the immediate area. I, of course, objected, as this would be quite unsightly for a long time until the hair grew back. So, I insisted he not shave the area, and he said that he would try to perform the procedure without this being necessary. He was successful.

The procedure itself consists of local anesthesia by injection. The first one stings a bit, but after that you don't feel a thing. The mole is then excised with a scalpel. It is then closed and sutured. It took approximately 30 minutes to do the whole thing.

The recovery was fairly short. Other than having to wear a small bandage for a day, the wound healed within a week. The doctor gave me an antibiotic paste to apply every morning to prevent infection. Don't get a haircut during this time! There was some sensitivity for a couple of days, but that soon passed. I am very happy with the results.

One last word: shaving around the mole is often unnecessary. So insist on not having it done!

I know by the time you read this you will have had the procedure done, but I had a mole removed from my head as well. It's not bad at all. They numb it for you, which is the most painful part, though not very bad, and clip it off. It's worth it.

It's a type of mole called a Star-Nosed Mole. They are all over this area.

This is a regular mole.
