i learned about that parasite last semester...if i could only remember its name...

it looks like cuterebra (sp?), which burrow under the skin and grow and grow until they are adults and drop out. Usually they are found in the abdomen or neck area, not usually in the eye. It also looks something like a stomach bot, which are transmitted by flies. I think that those need to grow in the digestive tract of horses and wouldn't be able to complete their development in the eye.

but there are a few other parasites that look just like that one and i'm sure if someone said the name i would be able to remember more about it...

damn, now i'm going to be looking through my old parasite notes all night. lol

it may also have been oestrus ovis. That's a parasite that lives in the nasal sinuses of sheep. if he was around sheep, he could have gotten it if he was in the line of fire when the female squirts out her eggs.

hmmm

cuterebra is like that. there's also hypodermis bovis and lineatum (i think i have the genus name wrong) and they're kinda like that too.

and then there's cutaneous larval migrans that can be caused by various nematodes.

so creepy, yet so cool. cool
