Hi guys,

I’ve been away for a little bit. I have missed being around but a lot happens when you get busy with life. I should prolly fill you in on what’s been happening.


Well first off, around the time I went MIA from here, there was a dilemma in the political scene here in Bermuda. A Member of Parliament here was trying to get sexual orientation added to our Bill of Human Rights. To make a long story short, the church rallied real quick to squash the move by this woman. They had lobbied so hard and so quick the politicians fell right into their laps. The free thinking ppl like myself were so complacent that the bill eventually failed. In fact, it wasn’t even debated on the day. The politicians didn’t even want to discuss it so it got thrown out. BAM! We listened to a recording of the “debate” after the fact and the silence was deafening.

Our view was that democracy was stalled.

That was on a Friday. So, we decided to have “lunch for democracy”. The following week, a group of us decided to form a group of concerned individuals that would rally and protest this poor action by our elected officials. We made banners, placards, made statements to the media, all that stuff. By the next Friday, we had 400 ppl outside our House of Assembly confronting our elected officials, asking them why they didn’t even debate the issue. It was glorious to see so many ppl out there participating in democracy especially for such a conservative country like Bermuda. I know 400 ppl doesn’t sound like much but in a country of 60,000 ppl that seems like a lot.

It felt so good that I participated in such a big event. It felt like I contributed to the well being of my home as well. I can’t really believe that my government would not even discuss a human right like protection from discrimination based on my sexual orientation. so what's happened now is that both parties have asked the member of Parliament who first tabled the Bill, to re-table it in November. We succeded in getting the debate back on the agenda and that to me is a great success!

Also, I got hired to write music for a performance piece called 3 Crabs In A Bucket and One At The Bottom of the Sea. I finally got to play a stage I have always wanted to, City Hall. At the time I didn’t even realize where I was. I just had fun doing it.
