I find modern furniture to be too sterile mostly [Edited 7/11/06 20:31pm] is there anyone else out there who likes modern furniture but me???? i like it because it reminds me of those James Bond movies, and the 60's.... I like modern stuff too But I don't like too much glass, I like more practical/sturdy/less precious stuff. Thick, dark brown wood, comfy couches & chairs, warm tones... I'm creaming for this table right now: West Elm has some nice stuff I love Pier 1 & Pottery Barn too...

I like your style, missfee.
I'm not sure what my favourite style is - in an ideal world I think I'd have quite a minimalist approach. Nice and airy, lots of glass and light, not much clutter. Like one of those fab loft conversions everyone lives in in NYC. Totally different to what I live in now - we've just moved into a new house so it's a ragbag of styles at the moment. You like kitsch? We got it. You like modern? You got it. Fancy something a bit old fashioned? Come in and make yourself at home. The best bit is: my mates who own the property are giving us the money to furnish it for them. Free reign, our choice as to what we buy. Shopping on other people's money.

i really want this orange flip flop sofa/bed from crate & barrel. it's on hinges so you can make it into a bed REALLY easily, and in my little studio apartment that's important. of course, this thing costs a thousand bucks, so i'll be holding off a while...

That bedroom set is great Missfee! Not sure about some of the other postmodernist stuff. I do like modern design over contemporary though, but favor Art Deco Arts and Crafts period stuff. A lot of new furniture takes on board these design concepts like straight lines, no fuss, great quality materials and I really like that.
But it depends where I am, holiday homes need a rustic country feel, and loft apartments have to be minimalist. I try and combine both in my home, some antique dark wood with modern pices too. I love Japanese influences also, black tiki wood and soft reds and burnt oranges, great bedroom and Dining room vibe. Something like this screams style to me Could never afford it Just yet My favourite pieces are our deco chairs like these. Ours have the same cream leather seat and back but the rest is in cherry wood panelling, they are to die for - I love them! (But I couldn’t find an exact picture - and my description does not do them justice Happy is he who finds out the causes for things.Virgil (70-19 BC). Virgil was such a lying bastard!

But there is a lot of poor "Mackintosh style" stuff out there that simply does not catch the true magic of his style. Some of his stuff is a bit to floral for my likeing and I would have to be a bit fussy for exaple: Chair on the left "yes" chair on the rihjt "no" As for a whole house!! I might go cross eyed with all those stripes Happy is he who finds out the causes for things.Virgil (70-19 BC). Virgil was such a lying bastard!

JustErin said: I have this couch and a similar ottomen, and instead of the two chairs in this pic I have two with rounded backs. Most of my new furniture is in storage until I move into my new place, so I can't take a pic of it all set up.
I am in the process of making throw pillows (the little one in this pic is only half stuffed) and buying co-ordinates. I love home decor! Here is my colour scheme to go with my dark chocolate couch. Erin, I love that!...Mint/chocolate. Gorgeous.

I saw it on some programme once and my jaw dropped. Two friends of mine went to Glasgow last year and popped in whilst they were there - they loved it. Last time I was in Glasgow I couldn't face going into the Mackintosh shop - I would've drooled all over the furniture.
