TELEVISION: how often is yours on??? (assuming you have a tv)... Are you one of those people that turn on the tv as soon as you hit the door? If so, WHY? Do you use it as background noise? If yes, what's wrong with silence Or music Do you fall asleep to the television? If so, are you actually watching as you fall asleep or is it just on to be on? How loud is the volume?? +++++ I'm one of those people who only turns it on when there's something I want to see (and not just since Tivo). Hearing the tv on all the time is pretty annoying to me, but I know lots of people who literally cannot function without the noise/distraction My 12 year old nephew comes over & he is MANIC until I turn the shit on & turn over the remote to him And he ALWAYS has to have something electronic on - the dvd player in the car, the gameboy wherever he goes... Maybe I'm just being an old bat (who didn't have so much access as a kid) but it doesn't seem right Anyway, though I find the dependence odd I do fall asleep with the tv on most of the time though but only if there's a sleep timer - there's nothing worse than waking up to the sound of that damn thing I turn to something I'm interested in even if I know I'm going to sleep & the volume has to be extremely low, I really just like to have a little light in the room So tell me, what are your tv habits??

I do watch TV everyday, but not hours upon hours of it.
I think we play more video games than actually watch TV. I never fall asleep with the TV on. We don't have TV's in our bedrooms My mom, my sister and my niece all sleep with the TV on It drives me crazy. I think the brain needs time to rest from all the chatter! Oh and I have tinitus and sometimes the high frequency of a TV set will really annoy me!! [Edited 7/11/06 1:45am] I AM BEATLOAF

I never could understand people that will have the televsion on while using the internet. maybe I just need to focus on what I am doing, but it seems pointless to me.
I don't watch much televsion any more. Some days I will go without watching a show. I don't schedule time out of my life to watch television. When I am watching, if one of the shows I want to see is on, that's cool, but I'll go weeks without seeing shows I like to watch just because I'm not watching televsion that day or in that time frame. Mostly I surf televsion before bed. I don't even watch a show. I just surf. Sometimes I will jump back and forth between a couple of things. Or I will just watch a couple minute of this and then surf until something else catches my attention. Please keep the ADD jokes to a minum. That's simply not the case. Maybe Bruce Springstine said it best 200 channels with nothing on. News: Prince pulls his head out his ass in the last moment.
Bad News: Prince wasted too much quality time doing so. You have those internalized issues because you want to, you like to, stop.

I guess b/c there are only a few shows that really command my attention where I actually sit there & watch every segment... other shows interest me & I like them but not enough to devote all my attention to them (or maybe it's just the strength of my Org addiction taking over )... But I tv/web surf all the time...

Ex-Moderator | These days, its pretty rare. I go through streaks of having shows I watch religiously, but there isn't anything on right now I watch. I don't have cable and I haven't returned my netflix in about 3 months, so I'm thinking I'm gonna cancel it and maybe get it again in the winter when I'm more in the mood for tv/movie watching.
Occasionally I turn on the news, or if I'm sick of everything I own musically I'll turn it on for background noise while I'm doing something else, but that's about it. |

I really cannot stand TV. It irks me. I watch it from time to time but I can't stand sitcoms and talk shows. I watched this Charlie Sheen show "Two and a half men" last week omg it was like torture watching it, like the same rehashed story and jokes I've seen on every other TV show. I really love movies though so if I'm watching TV it is usually a movie on HBO or something.
I'm usually either reading or listening to music or on the computer or out.

i truly only turn my TV on when there's something specific i want to watch, which is in the form of netflix about 97% of the time. i don't have cable, and i only allow myself 1 or 2 shows max that i watch every week...everything else i wait to watch on DVD compilations.

There are very few programmes that I make a habit of watching but I do like having the tv on in the background, sometimes. It's that flicker thing.

I don't watch TV much at all. I think I saw "Wife Swap" on ABC for the first time last night. Not into TV at all.
If anything, I keep the radio set to public radio stations all day long, for news updates and the music.

They must have been colourful hangovers. Did you dance? I don't really watch as much tv as I used to - only the odd programme - and I never listen to the radio. Well, I say that but Big Brother is on here at the moment so I have spent the last 4 weeks being glued to the tv. After that, normal life resumes.

I think TV's great. It educated me from the ground up and look how well balanced I am.

The TV would hardly ever be on here if it weren't for my wife. She is the type to just put it on automatically as if she's drawing the curtains to welcome in the new day. I turn it on specifically to watch things like sports events or series that I follow. She puts it on MTV or VH1 if there's nothing she really wants to watch, or one of the satellite radio stations.
I watch... NBA basketball, Premiership football, CSI, Cold Case, Bones (but those are due to my wife's almost worrying interest in murder and forensic programs), the odd movie, Sportscenter Asia, occasionally The Cartoon Network, and very occasionally programs on Discovery. I probably intentionally watch no more than 1-2 hours of TV a day, though it's on quite a bit.

i don't even let my cat watch TV. i like him to have voices to hear while i'm away at work, but i put on radio instead of TV because i don't want him getting addicted to crappy daytime tv.

I guess I spend my time on the internet instead of watching TV. My life leads me to spend a lot of time at home and I rarely use it particularly constructively. Beyond the relatively small amount of time spent reading, meditating or exercising each day, I either go on the net (from 6:30am until usually around midday - then maybe again in the evening, like now), go out shopping or socialising, or watch TV. Right now I can hear that film with Cedric and Vanessa Williams behind me, but I'm here on the net, as usual. It kills my sex life, seriously. I'm interacting with you guys when I really should be pounding some flesh.
