Wow, looks great.

How do you know her?

She moved to Moncton, New Brunswick when she was a teen and went to my school. I remember her eating lunch alone every single day, dressed in what I thought was beautiful clothing but what everyone else thought was just really weird so they ignored her. Myself and a friend approached her one day and asked if we could sit with her. She didn't speak A WORD of english. So we basically taught it to her. We became great friends, and I just adored her family, but I lost track of her after she moved to Ottawa to attend university.

Years later, I picked up a paper and there she was on the front page. She was starring in a new semi-autobiographical movie called Kandahar http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0283431/ . I was planning to contact her but literally a week later 9/11 happened and the whole world became fascinated with Afaghanistan and in turn, her. I would turn on the tv and see her being interviewed on everything from local stations to CNN. I wanted to wait until everything settled down to try and contact her. I didn't want it to look like I was suddenly only interested in her because of what happened. I still keep putting it off.

But I really should try to reach her now. I'd love to talk to her. She's really a beautiful, intelligent, strong woman.

wow justerin, that's amazing. i will definitely be checking that book out from the library once i get home.

as for now, I'm slowly making my way through Even Cowgirls Get the Blues by Tom Robbins. I'm liking it but there are definitely parts where I feel like Tom Robbins is being a self indulgent prick who really doesn't know as much about women as he thinks he does.

Still...it's an interesting read and I would like to watch the movie. I heard that William S. Burroughs is in it.

One of my favorite books of his is Skinny Legs and All. I like the talking objects and the craziness of the storyline. I still don't think that Tom Robbins learned much more about women the the twenty or so years that separated the two books, though. lol

i put it down to start reading "oh the glory of it all". once i'm done, i'm gonna get back to "a secret history" - it's going to be confusing to my little peabrain, because both have main characters who are young guys from california, and both books are largely set on campuses.

I read this 10 years ago when it first came out, I must say that there are not many books since then that I liked more. Having been to a boarding school myself, a lot of stuff was recognizable (apart from the bizarre stuff that happens in the story). I'm surprised that there hasn't been a film about this story yet, last thing I know is that Gwyneth Paltrow bought the rights for it several years ago.....

I never got through 'The Little Friend'..... sad
