HDTV/DVD--worth the hype?

i have a 60" philips HD projection tv with a separate HD tuner attatched to it. almost all of network tv shows are broadcast in HD now. but aside from sports and the occasional "ooh-ahh" moment (like Prince on GMA), the sharper picture doesn't really add anything to the viewing experience. i generally spend more time noticing blemishes on people's faces that you don't notice without HD. with the new HD-DVD and Blu-Ray DVD formats out now, is it really worth it to pay hundred of dollars to upgrade?
you look better on your facebook page than you do in person hmph!

lol

I downloaded a concert for Avril Lavigne that was in High Def and she had a million zits. Really distracting. lol

DVD is good; they should let it simmer for awhile.

I love it. Especially "Discovery Channel Hi-Def Theater." I wish more channels were available in HD though. Alot of the channels that aren't HD look really shitty.

HD is a fad.

All television was suposed to be HD by 2006. As you can see that didn't go over well. I believe it is the FCC that is giving television stations another frequency, one that could carry more data, so they could in theory switch to HD signals. However, the wider range of frequency also alows for mulit channel distribution per television station, and that equates to more money for the televsion station. So, if you were a television station would you broadcast a single station that would end up costing you more money or would you split the signal to increase advertising revinues?

I do understand you are talking about DVD players, but the television stations being the foundation, HDTV trickel down theory shows that HD-DVD is a fad.
News: Prince pulls his head out his ass in the last moment.
Bad News: Prince wasted too much quality time doing so.
You have those internalized issues because you want to, you like to, stop.

Spookymuffin

HDTV is a yes and know option. It requires serious research and I really cannot be bothered to write out everything I know about it...I guess to summarise I'd say the benefits outweigh the costs but there's a lot of spin and media hype to mislead you. Contrary to what you'd think, 720p is actually better than 1080p at the moment - it won't be in future.

That's silly.

HDTV is now what stereo tv was in the early 80's. You think HDTV will go away?

HDTV is great. There's a big difference in HD broadcasts. And yes, sooner rather than later all tv will be broadcast in HD.

You can hold off for now on getting an HD dvd player, though. Wait until after the coming format wars and the price for a player drops the way the price of HD televisions has in the last few years.
