Let's see...

1 Full Metal Jacket-These two movies actually show scenes of what you really do

2 Renaissance Man in the military. So many great memories!!!!! Woo Ha!!!
3 A Soldier Story-These two movies remind me when my Granddad was in the Army.
4 Tuskegee Airman- Same thing.
5 Glory-My great great cousin that found during that time in York, Alabama.

The rest of them are alright for entertainment. Where is Renegade at? Are we the only two Vet's around here or what? lol

Nope. And I own all of these. I have seen more but they suck. Simple things throw me off. How they wore their uniforms and medals placed incorrectly. Woman in uniform with jewelry and full make up. Red nail polish. It irks me. I know they are not allowed to show the full uniform and how it is worn but they could have had an advisor correct some of that mess. Comedies don't count and they are just for fun. But serious flicks need to be correct or I can't follow the story line. The other vets I work with have the same reaction with certain movies. Ask a drill seargent a question about anything and it will cost you at least fifty push ups. You do not ask questions you just do what you are told and say "Yes, Drill Seargent!" And you better say it loud and with feeling or you will push yourself to China with all those Diamond push ups. My drill seargent used to kill me with that one. "Hollywood, I heard that diamonds are a girl's best friend. Get down and get you some! I want fifty carats!" lol Since I was fron Cali he baptized me Hollywood as my new name.

Yes. They totally destroyed the story in the Hunt for Red October. They just had to make that mess hi-tech. The Russian submarine at the Queen Mary is the Red October. When you see that damn ship and think of the movie, it makes you wonder what they hell they are talking about. That ship had to be built in the fifty or sixties. I want to know the actually story and how the hell it ended up an attraction at a museum and not a military one at that. sigh

I don't like war movies enough to have seen a very broad cross section of them, but I've been really impressed by Glory, Full Metal Jacket and Saving Private Ryan.

As an aside, for any Full Metal Jacket or Stanley Kubrick fans, y'all gotta check out Full Metal Jacket Diary, a 20-year anniversary memoir of making the film recently released by Matthew Modine. thumbs up!

Come to think of it, I don't think I've ever seen a non-American war movie. eek It's a difficult genre since they can easily slip into tasteless and exploitive violence-for-entertainment-mode, but there have been many good examples of which most have already been mentioned:

Glory
Platoon
Saving Private Ryan
Schindler's List
Apocalypse Now
A Midnight Clear
The Thin Red Line
