It's not a vacation photo, nor were these women posing in skimpy binkinis because they were making a statement about loving their bodies...they did it because someone put out a casting call for obese women who wouldn't mind posing to show their obesity in a bathing suit so that the public could look and laugh. These four women said "I'll do it". The reaction you saw on this thread was what they and the photographer were going after. Mission accomplished. If you're gonna find fault with anyone, find fault with the photographer who thought taking a photo like this would be funny, as well as the models who took off most of their clothes, pointed at their bodies and basically said "Isn't my obesity hilarious?!...Come on, laugh!!"

I personally don't find it very humorous, although I do intellectually understand the core aspect of what's supposed to make it humorous (the contrast of visuals).

Well, I didn't read the rest of the thread, but the comments said up until the post of yours that I quoted didn't mention anything about ugliness or how they didn't deserve to be made love to (sounds like a spats comment..lol)...I think the worst thing said at that point was the word "cankles". Someone else said that the woman on the right was "anorexic" to be funny (again, a contrast of visuals)...so I guess in my eyes up to the point of your post the reactions were mild and were pretty much the types of reactions both the photographer and models were hoping to get...it was the reason they took the photo together in the first place.

But I still don't think these women were "brave" in any sense of the word...they weren't risking ridicule when they posed, they were purposefully inviting it and hoping for it. That was obviously their goal and agenda.

Mainly because there are literally thousands of photos just like this one all over the net, and their reason for existing is either stated or is even more obviously conveyed in the photos than this one is. That, plus since there are four obese women posing together, it tends to indicate that it was a planned photo, not a spontaneous one (plus the cheesy fade around the edges kinda indicates a purposeful photograph, not a spontaneous one). The only real way I could imagine four obese women posing together in skimpy bikinis like that spontaneously, would be for a website dedicated to women (and men) honoring the beauty of their bodies...which this one didn't see to come from. Logic just dictates that this photo is like the thousands of others floating around out there, and is the result of a "casting call" for the purposes of taking a "funny" photo.
