life saving?...

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/13612899/

It's going to be recommended that 11 and 12 year old girls get the vaccine for HPV, which causes cervical cancer. what to do...wait for the vaccine to have some time to see if its safe, or trust that its safe cause its being released. no sceptics apply

Trust that it's safe and have girls of that age vaccinated.

I thought it was only available for children.

If it's not and it's recommended that a woman of my age gets it, yes, I will look into getting it.

I read that you have to get it BEFORE you get your first period. If I had a daughter around 11 or 12 I don't think I'd let her get it, best to wait a few years and see.
In spite of the cost of living, it's still popular.

Panel backs HPV vaccine for young girls

The recommendation involves Gardasil, which is made by Merck & Co. and is the first vaccine specifically designed to prevent cancer. Approved earlier this month by the Food and Drug Administration for females ages 9 to 26, it protects against strains of the human papilloma virus, or HPV, which causes cervical, vulvar and vaginal cancers and genital warts.

Huh guess I heard wrong. I'm too old to get it. I don't think I would though.

HPV is incredibly, incredibly common. Both the strains that can contribute to cervical cancer and the strains that cause warts. There's still SO much unknown about it, but there are estimates as high as 60-70% of sexually active people having it. I would encourage any sexually active young woman to get the vaccine. Or better yet, before she plans on becoming sexually active.
I understand the 'wait and see' route for younger women who aren't yet active... but I'm still rather excited this has been created at all.

I think it's wonderful. I just wish that women older than 26 could get it. I don't understand why we can't.
