Superman Returns [possible spoliers] Ok, I saw Superman Returns last night. I liked it a lot...my main concern was that they do justice to Christopher Reeve. And they did a good job of that. I give it 2 thumbs up!! Anyone else seen it? Love God and I shall 4ever Love u

I'm gonna check it out this evening. My main concern is Act 1 (origins, Krypton, etc) because the original was so cool. I'm sick and tired of the Prince fans being sick and tired of the Prince fans that are sick and tired!

I wish I had two more hands, so I can give this movie: FOUR THUMBS DOWN!!!
Shame on you Bryan Singer. 19 years, waiting for Superman to be brought back to the big screen, waiting for him to be put back in his proper place as the number one iconic hero... for this??? I wanted to like this movie so bad, I had all the hopes in the world that it would be great, but I was sorely dissappointed. The story was terrible, full of holes and things that had nothing to do with Superman's history and character. I don't want to type any spoilers, but I give it 2 out of 5 stars. Here's a breakdown: Brandon Routh = GREAT! Those were some big boots to fill and he did an excellent job! Kate Bosworth = Great. Even though she based her performance very close to Margot Kidder, she pulled it off. Kevin Spacey = Terrible. He's a great actor, but he SUCKED as Lex Luthor. Sam Huntington = Gay. This actor sucked. Makes Marc McClure oscarworthy. Parker Posey = Good. Although she based her performance very close to Valerie Perrine. View at your own risk, but the fans of the comicbooks will be let down.

I have issue with this movie...I just don't see the point in it. Christian Zombie Vampires

THE POSTIVES OUTWAY THE NEGATIVES (IMHO)...
Where to begin, this movie had me at hello. Everyone that knows me, knows that SUPERMAN RETURNS means a little more to me than just the average Joe. I've been reading the comic books on and off since the late 70s, around the same time the now legenadary SUPERMAN : THE MOVIE starring the then unknown Christoper Reeve was released. 3 sequels followed and ended that run of films in 1987. Fast forward to 2006, several re-writes and a revolving door of directors and actors attached to a fifth SUPERMAN film have come and gone, budgets have been blown out of the water and Christopher Reeve has sadly passed away. Bryan Singer, fresh off to runaway X-MEN films gets the director's chair and casts a new unknown actor - Brandon Routh in the role of THE MAN of STEEL - the first and greatest super-hero in history, an American icon and a household name around the world. Having seen the 2 and a half hour epic, I have to say this, Brandon's voice, mannerisms and presence are at times so Chris Reeve like, it's almost scary. He does an amazing job, both as alter ego Clark Kent, and as SUPERMAN. The rest of the cast are also good, Kate Bosworth as LOIS LANE is probably not as tough (as Margot Kidder's version in the previous films) nor as sassy as Erica Durance's portrayal in the TV series "Smallville", but she does have a bit more emotional range. Kevin Spacey as LEX LUTHOR is a much less comical and much more maniacal villain than the previous Gene Hackman role of the 70s and 80s, but it's all about SUPERMAN! and I can't say enough about Brandon Routh who had some HUGE boots to fill and does exceptionally well. The Special FX are obviously light years ahead of the originals and there are some absolutely breath-taking scenes in the movie, from start to finish. This is a well crafted film, not just a run of the mill super-hero film, but something more, something special and it is very faithful and respectful to the earlier films. It can be seen as a great continuation or as a seperate entity and perfect jumping on point for old and new fans and at the end of the day, there's something for everyone - ACTION/ADVENTURE, ROMANCE and just a great reason to go the movies. This is without a doubt - a BIG screen experience. I don't want to give too much away storywise, suffice to say, the SUPERMAN franchise is back and the Last Son of Krypton's legacy is in safe hands. 9 out of 10, because there's always room for improvement.

The reviews I've seen say Bosworth is out of her league and Spacey is good. I do know Spacey has the only good moment in any of the clips I've seen.

OK. I saw it yesterday evening and I wasn't disappointed. I thought it was cool. I though Lex's ideas and schemes were outlandish, but so were they in the earlier films. I'm sick and tired of the Prince fans being sick and tired of the Prince fans that are sick and tired!

Lex, in the comics, isn't funny at all, and I liked how Spacey blended that version of the character with Hackman's goofier portrayal. I could buy that this was the same guy after years in prison. Kate Bosworth was the weak link, in my opinion. Her Lois was flat, and she came across as way too young to be a seasoned reporter. Routh was amazing, and I truly bought him as Superman. He had to follow in the footsteps of Christopher Reeve, and he totally pulled it off. He referenced Reeve's performance, but also brought his own element to it. Singer's direction was dead-on. He managed to pay homage to the original film, and the comics, yet also forge ahead with a new story. It was a bit darker, yet still had that feeling of awe in the presence of Superman. The campier bits were played down, but it still had dashes of humor. Overall, it felt like a great, big comic come to life. The pace was a bit slow in parts, and Bosworth left a lot to be desired, but otherwise it was a solid flick. I give it a solid 9 out of 10. Holy crap superman was awesome. I dont get any of the moaning about it. Heaps of people were saying Batman begins was way better paced and it took too long to get to superman. I watched batman begins again last night and it takes over an hour till batman actually does anything. Its a kickass film but Superman kills it. I love how they mentioned Gothan city in the news reports and all the stuff with Superman saving people RULED! I was giggling like a school girl.
And bonus points for using plenty of laser vision and X-ray .. oh and freeze breath. I can say without a doubt my favourite movie ever, knocking Shawshank off the top spot finally.Made me feel like a kid again. Hopefully on the next one though they have a villian that can go toe to toe in a fist fight with Superman. Lex Luthor is a one trick pony. And replace Kate bosworth with someone with a decent sized rack and not such a flat ass. Eeew

loved it! we saw it yesterday and thought it was wonderful! parker posey was brilliant, spacey was amazing, and brandon routh really WAS superman...his clark kent mannerisms were dead on and his little superman smirk and witty remarks were perfectly delivered!
the only problem...i wasn't crazy about kate bosworth for the first half of the film. i thought her lois lane was very unlikeable. i recognize that was a writing problem and not necessarily an acting problem but half the time i was like, "eh, who needs her supe?" i'd like to watch it again, maybe on imax!

Superman got baby mama drama! At last...a hero people can relate too...I think in the sequel Superman, Lois, Cyclops (Lois side thang) and Lex battle on Springer...
I can see the trailer now..."Superman battles his greatest foe....CHILD SUPPORT" clever clever quotation - attention getting quote - sad yet witty remark - look at me! Im deep quote- song lyric about my ex cause that bitch stole my mp3 player! - line from movie I liked - Prince lyric - not very clever sig mocking other sigs

[Edited 6/29/06 14:19pm] Before i even finished reading what U wrote, I had 2 quote U. I am now reading the rest. It's because... YES!!! Lex Luthor wasn't comical in the comics at all...he was very sinister. He had U seriously worrying about Supes' ass. I didn't like what they did with him in the Gene Hackman-portrayed version. I haven't see n the movie yet, but I, like some here, was a complete DC and Marvel comic freak, and I started in the '70s as a kid. Superman was one of my favorites. As well as Christopher Reeve did in portraying Supes, I don't think Brandon Routh should be compared 2 him. I will be comparing him to my perception of the DC comics Superman and Clark Kent. On another note... as far from the comic as the TV series with George Reeves was, I loved that damn show as a kid, watching the syndicated series. George Reeves was THE BOMB, and his Clark Kent wasn't nerdy at all... kinda tough, actually. The original Lois Lane... Phyllis Coates was a fireball. Then, man... U must be disappointed. The 2nd one really sucked. I mean, Toby McGuire wasn't bad, but it all went down that comic-to-film tragic path, of focusing far 2 much on the romantic interest, instead of straight-up web-slingin'. I was a '70s comic nut... Had hundreds of both DC and Marvel. Daredevil was one of my favs... 2 bad that movie was utter garbage. "He's a musician's musician..."

DD was utter rubbish, they tried to fit in his whole comic book story into an hour and a half movie. Plus Affleck wasn't the right guy to cast, Ed Norton was.

Strangely enough, one of the best comic-to-film ventures was The Hulk.
That was fantastic. Somehow, Ang Lee made it feel like a Marvel comic. 2 bad about Fantastic 4.... OUCH! "He's a musician's musician..."
