What is the best way to listen to your iPod in the car? I don't plan on installing anything in my car that would allow me to plug my iPod in, so if you could let me know the best brand of "radio transmitter" (like the iTrip or something), etc, that would be great....

I just bought the iRoad from Griffin, FM Modulator, it has a docking-station and offers to adjust all bandwith-frequencies (instead of just a preset-couple). I'm really impressed with it. It cost me 90 euro's (just over $ 100).
You stick it in the lighter-hole of your car, it charges you iPod as well! can't find a pic of it..... [Edited 6/27/06 13:07pm]

I bought the Griffin ITrip and it works, but the sound is shit. It comes & goes like the radio, I needed to hold the ipod at an angle to get the best reception, and you might need to change stations as you travel.
But it does work. Maybe technology has improved, but last I heard, plugging in still sounds the best. Still, good to read a positive review, maybe roadtrip is better. [Edited 6/27/06 15:01pm] My Legacy

the best way is to listen with headphones and eyes closed. News: Prince pulls his head out his ass in the last moment.
Bad News: Prince wasted too much quality time doing so. You have those internalized issues because you want to, you like to, stop.

I believe the current RoadTrip system is one... ...that doesn't require you to do anything more than plug it into your cig lighter. The great advantage over iTrip is that you can choose your frequency yourself so you're not dependent on those preset-ones.....

You've almost got me convinced to go against my better judgement and buy an iPod just to eliminate CD clutter in my vehicle. tA Tribal Disorder http://www.soundclick.com...dID=182431 "Ya see, we're not interested in what you know...but what you are willing to learn. C'mon y'all."

If you happen to have a cassette player (I know, ghetto), get a cassette adapter instead. They work better.
But the iTrip is fine. oh noes, prince is gonna soo me!!1!

But the iTrip is fine. My roomie has the iTrip and we had TERRIBLE luck with it this weekend. There's a chance she has no idea how to use it (honestly, that wouldn't suprise me at all), but I dunno... I didn't get a chance to mess with it myself.... I'm getting an iPod tomorrow and I just wanna make sure I end up buying something that gives me a clear sound... (I thought about the tape adapter thing, but I don't want extra wires everywhere...)

If you have a tape deck, USE IT. Honesly, I've tried a couple of FM transmitters. They just aren't that great (and I didn't find the more expensive ones to be better than the iTrip; it is important to find a good, clear station, but it's still RADIO). It's worth dealing with the wires. oh noes, prince is gonna soo me!!1!

So no concencus on FM transmitters? My wife and I are going to San Fran for 10 days and renting a car - after which we'll come back to our Subaru Outback which doesn't have a cassette player... so I'm looking for a good transmitter.
