2007 walk of fame

Somewhere Larry Wilcox is stewing.

The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce has unveiled the latest batch of Tinseltown glitterati fit for trampling by the masses, announcing the 2007 recipients for stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

And Ponch himself, Erik Estrada, is among the honorees.

Lest you think the rest of the list is Surreal Life-worthy, Hollywood Boulevard's sidewalk is also set to immortalize some higher wattage types, including Matt Damon (who will beat Ben Affleck to the pavement), Jamie Foxx, Michael Caine, Michelle Pfeiffer and director Robert Altman all making the cut for their work in motion pictures.

Also being honored for his movie résumé (rather than the seemingly more obvious choice of his TV contributions for which he has yet to receive a star) is former Roseanne main man John Goodman. X-Men: The Last Stand producer Lauren Shuler Donner rounds out the big-screen names.

Aside from Wilcox's old CHiPs running mate, four other TV stars have been deemed worthy enough to have their monikers forever preserved in a block of terrazzo and brass: 24's Kiefer Sutherland, Festivus reveler Jerry Stiller, news legend Barbara Walters and master of the procedural spinoff Dick Wolf.

As for the music category, the selection committee this year chose to be a little bit country, a little bit R&B. And for good measure, a (very) little bit rock and roll.

Comeback queen Mariah Carey nabbed herself a spot on the Walk of Fame, as did Sean "Puffy/Puff Daddy/Diddy" Combs, who should take the honor as incentive to settle on a moniker prior to the ceremony. Tim McGraw (whose better half Faith Hill has yet to earn herself a shiny piece of real estate), Shania Twain, LeAnn Rimes and Nashville legend Crystal Gale will be feted. The lone rock act to make the list: The Doors.

For the remaining two categories, live theater/live performance and radio, there are just two honorees apiece, with the most notable recipient being Lily Tomlin.

The Emmy- and Tony-winning actress, and Oscar nominee, has inexplicably escaped getting starred up until now and will receive the honor for her stage work.

Joining Tomlin in that category is Tim Rice, the Tony winner whose lyrics have accompanied Broadway hits by Elton John (Aida, The Lion King) and Andrew Lloyd Webber (Evita, Jesus Christ Superstar).

As for radio, veteran Los Angeles deejay and tastemaker Rodney "On- the-'Roq" Bingenheimer, so nicknamed for his longtime gig on L.A.'s influential KROQ, and Stu Nathan made the cut.

The 23 members of the Walk of Fame's class of 2007 will join more than 2,200 names already adorning the streets of Hollywood.

Chamber officials decided on the group after reviewing hundreds of nominations which they whittled down to a group of finalists, from whom a selected panel, the Chamber's Board of Directors, chose the ultimate recipients.

In addition to the painfully obvious criteria of being famous, star-getters must be at least five years into their show-biz career and have generous fans: Recipients' nominating parties are required to pony up a $15,000 sponsorship fee and the celeb must promise to show at their induction ceremony.

Dates for the stars' Walk of Fame ceremonies will be announced later this year.
