When You Do Karaoke...

What's your "staple" song? What do you like to perform most... or what compliments your voice best?

I start off my performance with "Lately" by Stevie Wonder.

Leaves them all speechless. cool

Nothing compliments my voice. I just go for it. Patsy Cline's Crazy would be it for me. No one expect's a chocolate diva to get up there and sing a country song. It is just funny to me!

I REFUSE to do Karaoke

I REFUSE to sing

I will NEVER do Karoke in my own country!

I have been caught out on a few occasions though - against my will.. boxed

First time I did Karaoke, I was stuck in a posh hotel in the middle of fucking nowhere - well some colossal golf course in China

All the guests were playing golfy during the night, with flood lit lights around the golf course so the interiour of the hotel was empty - me and my colleague Martin sat and drunk copious amounts of alcohol and hit the karaoke, singing to each other - me hesiantly so, but late more confident - and Martin like Sinatra on ecstacy.. we continued throughout th early hours to the horror of the staff, as we had 3 people waitimng on us and 2 staff, all of whom wanted to go to bed, but had to endure our mindless singing.. lol

Second time, I thought I was a-ok, cos me and Martin had perfected our Karaoke, so when forced by my Korean party, that it was my turn to get up and sing, I did so with semi-gusto

straightened my clothes, got up after a few too many Korean beers (the best) and sang..

well it wasnt the fairytale dream you expect - with Simon Cowell passing by and desperate to sign you up.. he wasnt there.. but to come to my rescue were 10 Koreans, desperate do drown out my singing.. I expect "3 Non Blondes - I say Hey" isnt a great song to choose when you cant hit the vocal chords - but the thing is, Koreans, and many Far Eastern people, attend Karaoke places very often - unlike me, so they can perfect Elvis songs - learn the lyrics off by heart and mimic his voice his accent, mind blowingly accurate, Sinatra too.. amny others follow, but for me to look at the sheet of songs and see one I barely recognise and think *I will sing that*) well after 10 beers, I havent considered that my voice can perfect the high notes and the song of chpoice is way out of my league - so never again..

unless you ask me of course after another 10 beers wink
if sexy was a colour it would be red batting eyes

I have only ever sang 2 songs at karaoke. Cyndi Lauper's Time After Time and Patsy Cline's Walkin' After Midnight. I've done both a handful of times but quite a few years ago now. I have a decent voice and I can carry a tune, but I'm utterly shy so therefore will never make a karaoke star. pout

OH, it's been a long time...

but here's some standards:

Heatwave (Martha & the Vandellas)
Respect (Aretha Franklin)
Burnin' Love (Elvis)

Bring down the house every time. lol

Oh dear, by the time I get up the nerve to sing Karaoke (which is a weird thing in itself because sometimes I actually sing professionally?)---usually I am TIPSYYYYY! smile And being tipsy, not being able to recognize 90% of the songs on the lists only mean that....I have to sing some goofy Madonna song, or Whitney's version of "IIIII Will Always--Love YoUUUUU" lol

Leanne Rimes "Blue"
Pasty Cline "Crazy"
Trisha Yearwood "That's What I Like About You"
Dixie Chicks "Let er Rip"
Reba McEntire "Smebody Should Leave"
A lot of Jodee Messina
