Kidman and Urban seek 'normal wedding' http://news.yahoo.com/s/a..._kidman_15
By MERAIAH FOLEY, Associated Press Writer Sat Jun 24, 4:01 PM ET SYDNEY, Australia - Nicole Kidman emerged from her waterfront mansion Saturday to tell the media horde that she had simple plans for the night before her wedding to country music star Keith Urban. "I'm going to get some sleep," the Oscar-winning actress said, adding that she and Urban were "very happy." Kidman, leaving the mansion she once shared with ex-husband Tom Cruise to visit her parents Antony and Janelle in their northern Sydney home, offered no details about the nuptials. The couple is expected to be married Sunday in a Roman Catholic ceremony at a stone church overlooking Sydney's Manly beach. They have been swamped with attention since jetting to Sydney several days ago and confirming their plans to wed. "Nicole and Keith just want a normal wedding and to celebrate with their friends and family," said Rob Potts, Urban's manager. "They're both just happy to have their family around them at this time and both are really excited and very happy about the wedding." Many of the reported guests said they do not know when or where the wedding will take place. Reports say the 230 expected guests include Australians Russell Crowe, Hugh Jackman and Rupert Murdoch. Australian newspapers were filled Saturday with possible details of the affair, including what the bride would wear, who might be on the guest list and what was on the menu. The Sydney Morning Herald reported that Kidman's preferred design house, Balenciaga, has produced a white gown with "lots of high collars." Some media have predicted that Kidman's sister, Antonia, and longtime friend Naomi Watts will be among the bridesmaids and "Moulin Rouge" director Baz Luhrmann will help film the wedding. It is the first marriage for Urban, 38, who was born in New Zealand and raised in Australia, and the second for Kidman, born in Hawaii to Australian parents. Her 10-year marriage to Cruise ended in 2001. Kidman, 39, won an Oscar for her role as Virginia Woolf in the 2002 film "The Hours." Urban won a Grammy this year for best male country vocalist and was named top male vocalist for the second year in a row by the Academy of Country Music. A Country Weekly magazine reader poll this year named him country music's sexiest man.

Maybe it works for her because of their shared cultural identity. They share the same country, same accent/dialect. Sometimes you want to marry people because of what you have in common with them. What's so offensive about the man being a country music star?

What's so offensive about the man being a country music star? Really? Keith Urban is pretty damn fine in my book. He is a very talented musician too.

They showed some celeb news clips here on Friday, showing Nicole and Keith having left a few cases of beer outside for the media with a nice note. She poked her head out of her gate, said a few words, smiled and went back inside her house. The slightly engaging, charm effect seems to be working because the paparazzi seems to be a lot less intrusive than they would normally be in a situation like this. She's egaging them a little bit here and there, lessening the lynch mob like atmosphere that usually prevails at private celeb events, and so far everybody looks satisfied. Perpetually tipsy off of beer consumed in high heat, but satisfied still...

Church bells ring as Kidman weds Urban By MERAIAH FOLEY, Associated Press Writer Sun Jun 25, 7:53 PM ET SYDNEY, Australia - Church bells rang out over Nicole Kidman's hometown Sunday to announce her marriage to country music star Keith Urban in a lavish but intimate ceremony attended by relatives, close friends and a smattering of Hollywood stars. The beaming bride wore a flowing white Balenciaga gown and pearl drop earrings. Her cream Rolls-Royce limousine drove from her waterfront mansion across the iconic Sydney Harbor Bridge, through streets lined with cheering fans. Kidman, accompanied by her father, Antony, smiled and waved to well-wishers outside the Gothic-style St. Patrick's College building, which was dramatically floodlit for the evening ceremony. The nuptials were held in a small chapel on the compound atop cliffs overlooking a beach. Urban, a Grammy-winning country music star, wore a black suit with a white rose in his lapel matching a bouquet clutched by Kidman. The ceremony was private, amid intense public interest and speculation about the details. The pastor said the Oscar-winning actress and Nashville, Tenn.-based singer would have a traditional Roman Catholic service. It was Urban's first marriage. Kidman and Tom Cruise divorced in 2001 after 10 years of marriage. The couple released an official photograph showing them smiling and holding hands. "We just want to thank everyone in Australia and around the world who have sent us their warm wishes," the newlyweds said in a brief statement accompanying the photo. They were expected to spend their wedding night in Sydney before leaving for what local media said would be a Fiji resort honeymoon. Urban's manager said Saturday the couple had wanted a "normal" wedding. The guest list included Australian movie stars Russell Crowe, Hugh Jackman and Naomi Watts, and media mogul Rupert Murdoch. Some onlookers climbed trees and the stone wall outside the compound trying to glimpse the activity inside. "Moulin Rouge" director Baz Luhrmann was expected to be in charge of the wedding video. A quartet from the Sydney Symphony Orchestra was expected to perform, as was Jackman, who sprang to fame in the "X-Men" movies. Kidman's sister, Antonia, and daughter, Isabella, 13, arrived dressed as bridesmaids in a separate limousine. Her son, Connor, 11, also was expected to participate in the ceremony. The Kidman family priest who conducted the ceremony, the Rev. Paul Coleman, said earlier that Kidman and Urban were "totally focused on their commitment." "It's the priority in their lives," The Sunday Telegraph newspaper quoted him as saying. Kidman, 39, won the best actress Oscar in 2002 for "The Hours." Kidman has said she and Urban will set up home in Nashville when they return to the United States. "I've moved to Tennessee for my personal life," she told reporters in Shanghai last week. "It's nice." Kidman is a hometown heroine in Sydney, where her Australian parents raised her. She was born in Hawaii. Urban, 38, was born in Whangarei, New Zealand, and raised in Queensland state. He moved to Nashville in 1992 and has acknowledged struggling with cocaine abuse. Urban was expected to serenade his bride. He won a Grammy this year for best male country vocalist and was named top male vocalist for the second year in a row by the Academy of Country Music. A Country Weekly magazine reader poll this year named him country music's sexiest man.
