THE worst household duty is...

This is random and pointless, but cleaning the cat litter box has to be the most disgusting and annoying thing to do around the house. There have been past threads about putting up shower curtains and cleaning toilets but no task quite beats the utter smelliness and "yuckiness" of this one, in my opinion.

There, now I've got that off my chest, I have to go clean three litter boxes after I'm off the computer.

Although I've cleaned the litterbox a couple of times, this is mostly my wife's job. After all, it is her cat.

falloff I always joke that I smell like a French whore after cleaning the litterboxes because I promptly go and clean myself off and then to get the smell out of my nose. And then I ask like ten people "Do I smell like litter box to you?" lol

i live alone, so i can't pass off litterbox duty on anyone. pout

BUT: i find that siftable litterbox liners and a box of baking soda do wonders, as does having a dustbuster nearby to sweep up all the wayward litter. nod

i have it down to a science, so it's not as yuck as it used to be.

Believe me, I know. lol I despise cleaning the litter boxes more than anything else I have to do because of the smell and how it clings. Fortunately, I don't have an issue with cleaning up afterward. biggrin

i'd love to get one of those big ol' domed litter box jobbies where kittie has to walk up some spiral steps and pass through a flap to get to poopieland (i think there's a light in there too, like in a fridge lol), but i don't have the space in my apartment for one...it's about the size of my apartment!

i don't mind cleaning out my cat's litterbox. at first it was kinda like "eww", but as time goes on it doesn't really phase me. the only thing that does bug me is that hohner is a friggin madman when it comes to covering up his poop. after he pees he'll just cover it with a few swipes of kitty litter and be on his merry little way...but after he's pooped, he goes into total "ohmigod, that's GROSS!!! gotta cover it up NOW!!!!!" mode and just gets litter everywhere while covering up his business...i gotta sweep up my bathroom floor damn near everyday because of that.

sometimes i think about toilet-training the little bastard...it'd make things so much easier. lol

lol I hear ya on that, cats are so fastidious about some things, aren't they? I have to sweep my bathroom floor daily as well just to keep it clean.

Did you ever notice how as soon as you get the cat's box scooped out, they just have to go in there to do their business? It's like they purposley wait until you're done, then they think to themselves, "Oh, goody, she cleaned out my box! Time for me to go in there and make a deposit!" lol
RIP, mom. I will forever miss and love you.

It's important to keep up on the task and then it's not so bad. It's when a person lets the box go for days without scooping that it's almost unbearable to do. Still better, imo, than picking up dogshit, though.

Sounds like you could use one of those covered kitty litter trays...we have one and it works great
Thanks for the laughs, arguments and overall enjoyment for the last umpteen years. It's time for me to retire from Prince.org and engage in the real world...lol. Above all, I appreciated the talent Prince. You were one of a kind.

The kitty litter thing isn't so bad if you clean it each day. My cat doesn't "tolerate" having more than one gift in her box at a time, so I do it like three times a day. Unless the dog gets there first-----NOW THAT IS GROSS!
