Is there a Doctor... ...in the family?
Last month I went to my little brother's Doctoral Commencement... ...He now has his PhD in Philosophy from Vanderbilt University in Nashville. And did it on a Dean's Fellowship no less. Got a gig teaching (on his very 1st interview) at a well funded private college in Memphis. He's also... ...had an essay published. While I was in Nashville I got to hang out with ThreadBare & Adisa. 2 fine upstanding gentlemen. tA Tribal Disorder http://www.soundclick.com...dID=182431 "Ya see, we're not interested in what you know...but what you are willing to learn. i'm kinda jealous now though Thank you (on my brother's behalf) but why? tA Tribal Disorder http://www.soundclick.com...dID=182431 because of his very good education and for studying hard and accomplishing something at a young age. i kinda had the opportunity but wasted it being happy in the place i was. i should have worked harder but didn't. i know that's my own stupidity. that's why i appreciate it even more in others who do pull through and go for it and make something of their life by study and hard work. i guess it makes me kinda jealous that i'm too weak to ever finish something. and true love lives on lollipops and crisps

lol, it must be a dutch thing First, thanks to you both. Second, let me try and add some sunshine to your rather cloudy personal outlook (if you're not joking). When I said little brother, that's not an accurate description. He'll always be my "little brother" but he's not little nor does little refer to his age. He's in his 40s. His educational path was not contiguous from grade school to where he is now. There was a stint in the military after which he entered college. While attaining his B.A., he also had a job. Until he obtained the Dean's Fellowship at Vanderbilt (taking finances out of the equation) he paid for his education on his own. I saw many at the commencement that were much older than him. So I said all this to say, it's never too late. tA Tribal Disorder http://www.soundclick.com...dID=182431 "Ya see, we're not interested in what you know...but what you are willing to learn. ooh sheesh, this touches close to home for me too...
i wanted to write a doctoral dissertation in civilization... then i decided against it, more or less, and now i'm questioning that decision... there are so many pros & cons in both directions. what to do, what to do??? it's not too late, but i ought to decide in a couple of months, at least. i'll talk to my professors about this next week.

Congrats to your brother! Thanks for the laughs, arguments and overall enjoyment for the last umpteen years. It's time for me to retire from Prince.org and engage in the real world...lol. Above all, I appreciated the talent Prince. You were one of a kind.

theAudience, his brother and father are three of the coolest people you ever would be privileged to meet. That, uh, Adisa fellow's pretty OK, too.
tA swung through for the graduation and spared some time with us after getting into Nashville. And, surreptitiously took care of the check, the stinker. Thanks for the reminder that it's never too late.

Congrats to your brother!! and thanx to you for posting his path to his accomplishment....I'm in the last stages of my military career and will be going back to finish my advanced degree in sociology (my plan barring any unforseen obstacles from my multiple deployments...) and it motivates me to know that its not gonna be too late....and even if I don't get to teach or publish, it'll be personally rewarding....
again, many kudos.... He was like a cock who thought the sun had risen to hear him crow.
