I liked it. Like alcoholic herbal tea stirred with a licorice stick. I found the color to be really beautiful, and there were some subtle but enjoyable visual effects.

Here is an ebay link I chased down. This was the first bottle of absinthes I bought. As far as the taste it is a little stronger but the effects work well.

I've tried it - several times - but the last one was ages ago. From what I remember it does taste quite aniseed-y.

The bar I tried it in used to put a 'stamp' on your hand every time you had a shot. You could have 3 shots maximum.

No idea how my mate got round it but he had six and was rolling around by the end of the night. He must've licked the stamp off.

My grandfather had some bottles of absinthe that had been manufactured and imported into the U.S. before the ban in 1912. Unfortunately, that absinthe was been consumed back in the 1970s or so.

We tried it the last time we drove to Vancover... well, sort of. Absinthe is legal in some Canadian provinces.

I say "sort of" because there are only two brands of absinthe that are legal for sale in British Columbia, and both are from the Czech Republic. Czech absinthe doesn't have much in common with "classic" absinthe, other than thujone/wormwood (believed to be the cause of absinthe's "secondary effects").

It's an interesting experience... I thought it was mostly like being under the influence of alcohol, yet with a distinct "clear-headed" feeling. Still, the effects were rather subtle. You're not going to trip or anything like that.
