My Big Gay DVD Spree I just bought VALLEY OF THE DOLLS and the new MOMMIE DEAREST reissue DVDs tonight, and boy do I feel queerer than a catfart! The MOMMIE DVD has audio commentary by none other than JOHN WATERS and there are a smattering of special features, including a bit that looks to be hosted by Waters. The packaging is a little skimpy - no booklet, no commemorative wire hanger, etc. - but hey, it was a cheep twelve bucks, so whaddaya want. The VALLEY OF THE DOLLS DVD is a big ol' two disc set with a TON of features, a booklet, an envelope full of lobby card photograph reprints, and the whole thing is contained in a hot pink case, which slides out of a nicely made slipcover. Very swanky as DVD packaging goes. These are two of my favorite campy films ever ever ever (throw in SHOWGIRLS and you have a perfect trilogy of tripe), and in my opinion, no household is complete without these films on the shelf - especially if you have children in need of corrupting. Now I get to fire up the DVD player and watch these goodies. FLAME ON!!!

eh. meh. GEH. YOU, mister, REQUIRE viewing of this film. REPEATED viewings. so many that when you bump into a friend on the street and they ask what you're up to, you can involuntarily blurt out, a la patty duke, "I WAS MERELY TRAVELING INCOGNITO!!!" if you liked showgirls or mommie dearest at ALL, this movie will have you giggling. plus it has a burt bacharach soundtrack - what's not to love about that?

I have to get the Mommy Dearest one for the commentary alone. I love the movie but John Waters is pure comedy.
Hey Anx, what's that offensive but funny "fag" line in Valley of the Dolls? M MyeternalgrattitudetoPhil&Val.Herman said "We want sweaty truckers at the truck stop! We want cigar puffing men that look like they wanna beat the living daylights out of us" Val"sporking is spooning with benefits"

I'm quite fond of THE WOMEN. The Technicolor fashion show scene is AWESOME! L'amour... L'amour! "I Was FINE Back in the Day!"

The Technicolor fashion show scene is AWESOME! L'amour... L'amour! see, i like these movies just fine, but they're the kind of camp films that were made really well - you laugh WITH them, not AT them. i'll watch those, but i don't need to own them or learn all the dialogue. i much prefer neely o'hara ripping helen lawson's wig off her head and flushing it down the toilet.
