Well since I live in Finland it was hard to escape those things at one time. There was even a great Muumi-fad in the 90s. The original children's bokks were a bit different, more edgy. And even a bit scary for the youngest children.

Then the Japanese corporate forces took them over and turned them into how they are known today across the world.

I know! I read a book to the kids and it was really wierd and hard to make sense of! eek my own book from the 70s had psychedelic pictures, it was cool, though again hard to understand the story.

Jeremy The Bear (aka Colargol, Beertje Colargol, and Barnaby the Bear) was my alltime favorite show as a child. I wish I could find these vidoes online.

My absolute favourite as a kid was this Finnish bunny character:

Well, not just as a kid. smile

(How much more effectively could you lose your Death Industrial credentials than by confessing to liking Pupu Tupuna? lol )

Thats Barnaby The Bear !!!!! Or at least what he was called here !!!!

http://www.jedisparadise....naby.htm&1

Barnaby teh bears my name
Never call me Jack or James
I will sing my way to fame
Barnaby the Bears my Name

Birds taught me to sing
when they took me to their King
First I had to fly
In the sky so high, so High, So High, So High, So HIgh

Cant go on any more.....lol

Sad to say, but there are no DVD's or Videos with Barnaby on sad

We have an on-going joke here in Finland that roughly translates to something like this:
"Why Are The Moomins so fat?",
"I don't know",
"Well, wouldn't you be fat too if you were deprived of having an asshole, yet you were forced to eat all the time?"

(they're eating constantly in the books)

Oh Charlotte, you've basically mentioned every single character that creeped me out and made me depressed in my childhood. Except maybe for "Vilse i pannkakan". confused

I had to watch hours of Tom & Jerry to get rid of the mental image of those fat, pale hippos after accidentally catching an episode. disbelief

Yeah, the ghost-like creatures in the Moomins very genuinely creepy, and I guess they are that to even adults' standards to some extent. Most of them were completely silent, hovering, expressionless. Really scary and stylish in that way.
