Here in houston, all the independent "massage" parlors, or "modeling" studios are fronts for prostitution that is somehow allowed by the police. I think that when something bigger is happening (drugs?) or if it gets too high profile they get busted. It's almost as if the "white" ones get busted, but the "korean" or "vietnemese" ones are ignored.

I remember back when me and my friend Vanda wanted to jokingly do some investigation (we ate at a restaurant that was in the same parking lot as one), we were gonna get her dressed up as a boy to get in the lobby. but in reality, her car broke down, the restaurant had closed, and so we went into the "massage" parlor to use the phone. (neither of us had a cell phone that night!)

the security guard, maybe an off duty policeman, manned the little entry way, and asked if we knew what went on in there. We said we just wanted to use the phone. A nice tiny little korean girl in lingerie/negligee let us use a phone to call a friend to get us. It was hilarious.

On the way out we saw a whole truck of day workers (usually illegal immigrants who do random construction or labor as a group form day to day) Park their truck and all go into the place.
