Orgnote me when we get closer to that time. I'm happy to give tips, like parts of Mpls to stay in, what you NEED to see, restaurant and club tips, that kinda thing.

Not many hostels (there is at least one I know of) and there are a few decent, reasonably priced hotels. Depending on what you wanna do depends on what part of the city you wanna stay in, but I'd likely suggest downtown. Traveling about is easier that way.
Clubbing is gonna be a problem for you, though, as I don't think you're 21 yet? sad There are a handful of 18 and up events, but it's more concerts and shows and you'll just have to hope for a decent one when you're in town.

Well you can take a bus. I'm sure if you actually book something with an agent they can set you up on some sort of tour of the US on bus.

I've pretty much been to all the beaches on the East coast, and I have to tell ya, there are lotsa "pretty" beaches. But for a true beach experience you MUST do the Jersey shore. Cheap & plenty of nite life! And it's Americana at it's best, rite down to the nickel & dime shops on the board walk.

You can get around on buses quite economically, but they take a long time and are kinda uncomfortable. Trains can be a bit cheaper than air travel and are a bit more comfortable than buses, but flying is sometimes the way to go, if you can afford it. Its a really big country. smile
I've been several places in the states and I have to say my favorites are still San Francisco and New Orleans, although I don't know what New Orleans is like now post-Katrina. New York and Chicago are both also great fun. And Chicago's only a hop, skip and a jump (about an hour and a half and fairly inexpensive flight) from Mpls if you're planning to come here. Seeing the desert in Arizona is a gorgeous thing, as would be the grand canyon.

Come to Seattle. biggrin At the very least, don't skip the pacific northwest. It's beautiful here.

And Carrie's right, flying is often the best option, unfortunately. If you had a year, fine, take busses everywhere, but otherwise, fly. Rail is usually not especially time and cost efficient (though, I personally enjoy it).
