actually, orgpops make me insane.

i don't like things popping up when i don't expect them. it offends my control queen nature.

I see. nod

Does that include ALL things popping up? Control Queens can't be that bad about it. razz

Seriously, I hope this doersn't make me look like a stalker. confused I've been called many things but that's a new one on me. confused

Just interested to know why now, particularly, everyone seems to be doing it. shrug

i'm just kidding about the stalker thing...but i never know when someone is lurking or not lurking, which i suppose is the intended purpose of lurking. i just figure if someone wants to interact with me, they will. if they don't wanna be bothered, i won't bother 'em. i don't really care if there's a reason they want to be left alone. if i asked them why they wanted to be left alone, i wouldn't be leaving them alone, would i? lol

what's the relevant definition of "lurk" here?

There could be several, I suspect. Depends on which way you like your lurking, I guess. smile

I'd class it as 'being online - but not 'online' - yet retaining the ability to post'. geek

Of course, you could be lurking without actually posting. Just visiting the site. But I was thinking of the former.

Why you wanna go and open up that whole can of worms??! lol hug

but if you're logged on as you, aren't you not-lurking?

or are you talking about alter accounts made for lurking, like LurkyLoo542?

Indeed. smile

I guess the real reason I ask was because - sorry to anyone involved but I am not thinking of anyone in particular - I wondered whether it was because people are worried about how much time they spend here. shrug

That's fair enough but - if it is the case - people are gonna know you're online anyway if you post a reply to a topic! nuts lol

Sorry, I'm just thinking aloud. It always has disastrous consequences. lol

i'm not trying to pick on ya, honest i'm not! lol

i just always wonder about the whole lurking thing. it's like when people complain to me about when i don't answer my phone, yet they know i'm at home. maybe i just don't wanna pick up the damn phone! maybe i'm watching a movie or writing something! and anyone who knows me knows i hate talking on the phone. so where's the mystery? falloff

i think people who have a natural inclination toward being very social and public have a hard time understanding people with a natural inclination toward being private and solitary. and vice versa, to be sure.

Now I'm really confused. lol

I agree with that. nod What I'm referring to is when Orgers are actually logged on/signed in/whatever - i.e. putting your password and username in - but have gone into 'lurk' mode. (You can change your settings in your personal profile, I think)(I never knew about this until I asked someone how they could send me Orgnotes without actually being online hmmm).

Basically, you're actually online - with the ability to view your account, read/make Orgnotes, etc - but it doesn't show you as being 'online'. (I've never done it so I assume this is an accurate description).

But I wouldn't dare ask Orgers why they're just visting the site, not logging on, and lurking that way! :faloff: That's up to them. lol

I see what you mean. nod Maybe I didn't explain it very well. lol But you'd be surprised by how much you described me, actually. nod On one hand, I'd say I'm a very sociable, outgoing person. i see whatcha mean, and to be honest, i don't think ANYone is 100% introvert or extrovert. if we had 100% solitude or lack of privacy all the time, we'd go completely wacky

but on a more relevant note...i had no idea the org even had a lurk mode! shrug

i have a really close friend who lives in chicago, and who knows the drill, because she's the same way. we went to college together, we were roommates in new york together, and we even lived together in chicago for a while. the key to our friendship? WE IGNORE EACH OTHER. thumbs up!

but when the stars align and we feel like hanging out, we have a great time. we'll probably not-be-in-touch forever. touched

Cool! Do you have a Yahoo messenger account? I'll add you and then never log on. You're my new best friend, along with Anx. This is likely the last reply you'll ever receive from me. mushy

Seriously, I haven't picked up a telephone and called someone in 2006. I took a call a couple of days ago when my wife called me from the post office, but I've probably done that less than 10 times this year. lol disbelief
