I Heart Telemarketers

Last night. The phone rings. Like a fool, I answer it. disbelief

ME: Hello?

TELEMARKETER: Hello, my name is Schmoey Schmoe Schmoe, and I'm calling on behalf of Ass Bank to talk with you a little bit tonight about what we can offer you in terms of mortgage loans.

ME: I don't own, I rent.

TELESATANIST: Oh. Are you thinking about buying?

ME: No. Not really. KTHX, bye -

TELEDUMBASS: Maybe if you let me talk to you for a moment about our mortgage -

ME: Why, so I can put you on hold while I close on a new house?

TELEDRIP: I don't think that would be very realistic.

ME: Neither is this call!

falloff don't be shy! tell us how you really feel. giggle i'm on the 'do not call' list, which actually helps a bit. BUT the newest telemarketing gimmick, aimed at getting around this restriction, is where they call and leave a message on the answering machine that goes something like this: "This call is from joe smith. This message is for jane smith. I have some very important news for you. You will be sorry if you do not return my call at 1-800-1234567. Please let me know if you received this message."

for anyone who is gullible enough to return the call and dial the number, that person has 'made contact' and is therefore open game even if they are on the do not call list.

telemarketing sucks, imo

I screen all my calls and I never answer them if it says "unknown". That's a sure sign of a telemarketer calling. If I do get caught by them on occasion, I immediately interrupt and say no thank you, goodbye and I hang up.

I hate telemarketing companies. I realize the caller is only doing his/her job, but I don't give them any of my time. I wish they would all go away.

if by chance i do answer my phone

and by chance it's one of those kind

i usually laugh hard at them and tell them NOT to call back until they can pronounce my name correctly why would i even bother to think of buying their shit when they cant even pronounce my name

usually leaves them speechless and i hang up

My aunt told me that if they give out information to the wrong person that they could be fired. She pulled this stunt on a telemarketer one time. Her name is Linda and that's who they asked for, so she kept letting them talk on, and about half way through the conversation she told them that her name was Lydia instead of Linda. She said they got pissed with her and hung up evillol The next time one of them calls, I think I'm gonna pull that stunt. evillol

I get close to 5 calls a night. Usually they are for the partner (who never answers the phone). One time I got fed up and actually talked to someone who would not talk to me or tell me what it was in regards to. I said "You either tell me why you are calling...with a private number or I am hanging up".

Normally If I don't hear a person on the other end right away I hang up. But still I get a bunch every night and it sucks the big one!

Call ID. It's a must. Then if it says a number that I decide might be legitimate, I may answer it. If I say hello and no one says anything right away(telemarketers have a delay), I hang up. And possibly blog the number.

yeah, i need to get caller ID. i'd like to get rid of my landline altogether, but i have a good deal on DSL via my phone company. it's cheaper to have caller ID than to *69, anyway...it costs $1.50 every time i dial *69!!! omfg

i had a telemarketer do that to me once. they were calling for my mom's partner but they wouldn't tell me who they were or what they wanted and they ended up hanging up on me!

and then they called back five minutes later. i answered the phone and asked them again who they were and what they wanted and they hung up on me again!

The title of the thread is "I Heart Telemarketers". Is this a frudian slip? Did you mean to say hate but subconsciously you love the attention you get from then and thus it came out "Heart" a symbol of love?

Anyway, People, all you have to do is be aware of things like the national do not call list, put your name on these things, and you will not be bothered any longer.

Not only am I on the national do not call list, and thus my phone doesn't ring with telemarketers, I also am on the do not contact list for credit cards, so my mailbox doesn't get filled with crap-ass offers for rip-off credit cards. Knowledge is power. Use it.

Unfortunately, that is not true. I still get bothered and I've registered and re-registered with the 'do not call' list.

there is a little wiggle room, as slime will always find some place to wiggle, but you need to take their names down and info, and you can sue them for alot of money.

I did a blog about the most bothersome number. They called me 10-20 times. Couldn't stop em. Looked them up, and another blogger said they were working with the Democrats. Their area code was Pennsylvania(Pittsburgh I think). Call ID said 'Outreach Association', which turned out to be bogus. Has anybody heard of them? I can post the number here, but I wasn't able to find out anything.

I'm an independent, but if you really wanna make sure someone won't give you anymore money, hassle them about it all the time. I can't believe a political organization would be that stupid.

If you all put your name and number in the national do not call list, but you are still recieving phonecalls, chances are really good those are NOT legal calls. Chances are very good those are calls with people trying to find out more info about you to steal your identity or what not. You really have to be careful now a days where you put any part of your personal info.

I know how you feel. I saw this strange number yesterday and answered.

Hello, is Shy there?

No she is not, would you like to leave a message?

No.

Only telemarketers don't want to leave a message because they know no one will call them back. Bill collectors will tell you, look ho, we want our money. Here is our number and call us back within the next twenty-four hours or we will come get you!
