Is it just me, or are a lot of models just not that good looking? Seriously...there are some random models out there who just look like Plain Jane's or worse - not attractive!!! I don't know a thing about modelling, but every time I catch some model chicks walking on a catwalk on TV, I would have to say that a decent portion of them are not even remotely attractive... Does anyone else notice this? Who the hell hires these girls? I'm not saying that these girls are without value, but if you're paid to look hot, shouldn't you be hot?

a lot of the tall models are busted. they (the industry) try to market them as "unique" or "unusual beauties". nope. they are just busted. but since they're tall and thin and wear clothes like a hanger, they get lots of work. ok, and maybe some of them have really fierce walks.

Runway models are seldom attractive. Their bodies are what gets them hired. Most designers believe that their clothes fall better on a rail thin body than one with curves...they want it to drape like it would on a hanger. Most of these girls are Plain Janes or even ugly. The ones that are also gorgeous tend to become "supermodels" and land huge contracts. The days of looking at the model and not the clothes seemed to have died out in the late 90s. Print models, swimsuit models etc. are usually very attractive in the face.

I think the industry is looking at aesthetic features now more than actual sexual appeal (unless you’re talking Sports Illustrated Swimsuit models). It’s kind of like watching the Westminster Dog Show. Sure pure breed features are so exacted that even the most minor infractions disqualifies otherwise perfect dogs; but, the dogs do look kind of weird, don’t they? And be among her cloudy trophies hung.

Yeah, I was asking myself that same question during the hype over this past season's America's Next Top Model . . . .the girls they selected before they narrowed it down to 15 were to me not "models" nor were some of the top 15 . . . .most of em looked like girls you could just select randomly and blindfolded . . . .
I guess because my impression of what a model is has always been set by the standards of the supermodels of the past . . . .

Most models are just too damn skinny for me, I like my ladies to have "SOME" meat on their bones. Yeah some of them are cute in the face but they have NO-ASS-AT-ALL!!! My ladies gotta have some ass, LOL!

I completely agree. There was a blonde chick on America's Next Top Model that was completely awkward looking and she made it to the top 3.

Look at the Victoria's Secret models. They're gorgeous, but I couldn't tell you what any of them wears, all I see is the woman. Victoria's Secret isn't high fashion, though, and they use the models to get notoriety & maybe some male shoppers. My Legacy

Ex-Moderator | Models aren't paid to be hot, they're paid to model. To make an article of clothing or outfit look attractive. To be a living, breathing mannequin for fashion. |

I agree, there are many models who aren't that pretty or just don't look anything special. Runway models are just there to show the clothes, be like living manequins. They're not supposed to draw the attention from the fashion. Which I partly understand, partly not. The clothes would often look much better if they'd be on girls with figures and more radiant looks. I'd feel more encouraged to buy clothes seen on someone like Jennifer Lopez than on some pail, vacantly looking "Plain Jane".

My good man, might I suggest paying a bit more attention to the "plus-sized" models?
Quite often, they're gorgeous.
