Seattle's parade has been laaaaame the last couple of years. Corporations and politicians. I'm grateful to live someplace where these people want to associate themselves with queers, but. . . geezus. Boring.

It's moving out of the gay neighborhood this year, too, so now it's just gonna be lesbians with strollers and Subarus. neutral

Same with the Chicago Parade, plus its so unorganized the parade can last anywhere from 2 hours to 4 depending on how many large gaps are between each organization.

The only thing worth looking forward to is the Pflaggers and the Giant Jewel Grocery cart.

oh yeah, i heard there was drama and 2 different pride events happening there.

Total drama. It could be interesting, though, if all of the commercial, political, and "family friendly" stuff moves downtown. That would leave a whole lot of nudity, body paint, glitter, and obnoxious music for my neighborhood. woot! lol

Yeah, and that's all well and good. It's not like there isn't a huge political component to all of this, and we need them on our side. But. . . doesn't do much for a parade. lol

I will partake in some of the Pride events this year, but I'm pretty much over the parade. As Deja noted, it's heavy on the politcos and corporations. Sure we've got the bar floats and the PFLAGS and whatnot, but it's just kinda boring. And, I've been out for(GASP) 15 years now. I've shown plenty of Pride nod And, with my job I'm all political and whatnot 40 hours a week. I don't need to do it on the weekends.

I think Uptown is having a Pride Block Party again at Bryant Lake Bowl. I def'ly wanna go to that. Then friends who live by us have a rockin party on the Saturday of the weekend.

Sunday (parade day) I will likely skip the parade and then head down to the festival in the afternoon. I have no doubt that once again I will be carrying mass amounts of liquor, get completely schlocked, stay out all nite and end up at some weird after bar which I will barely remember giggle

lol So, yeah, Pride to me is clearly no longer about amking much of a statement. It's just a fun party weekend when I can re-connect with folks I tend to see only once a year.

Funny, I've been feeling unusually dykey lately. I'll have to get you on the phone soon and tell you about how I've scammed my way into a summertime road trip with this coworker of mine whom I'm totally in love with. . . it makes going to work so much better, I'll tell ya.

i'm kind of a closet pride grinch. i think it's great for other people who need to identify with something really public that acknowledges the community, but i've never really "connected" with it other than going with people i know and enjoying their company.

i will say the moms with their "proud parent of a gay child" always get me choked up, every year. nod

Actually, PFLAG is always my fave part of the parade, for that same reason. giggle
