Just got back from POSEIDON!

I knew it would be bad. But I didn't know how bad. A new bad movie classic is born! They spent $175M on this - where'd the money go falloff

Hollywood needs to be taught a lesson that remakes are NOT what the general public want. Didn't they learn their lesson with Planet of the Apes? disbelief

I heard is was REALLY REALLY wack. But I would like to know whether Richard Drefuss' character survives. And, if not, how does he die?

Spill the beans, VoicesCarry! (In orgnote, if you don't want to spoil it for everyone.)

It was really pathetic, because he does not die.

BUT here's what happens. And this is REALLY REALLY wack indeed.

Richard's character gets into 2 near-death situations. In the first (and you can see this in the trailer), he is hanging on the inside of elevator shaft with another character, Valentine, holding on to his leg. Richard is gradually slipping from the grasp of Josh Lucas, who tells him that he MUST kick Valentine off to survive. So he does, and Valentine falls down the shaft to a fiery death. Earlier, Valentine had saved Richard's life. The audience (all 4 of 'em) kind of drew back at this point.

Later Richard gets stuck in a vent and a character named Elena (who was intimate with Valentine) pushes him up, freeing him and saving his life (AGAIN). Later, she gets caught on a something while swimming through a submerged hallway. Richard goes back to find her, but is unable to reach her in time.

So that's two expendable people who saved his life DEAD and the old dude is still alive. WTF?!

But I think the highlight of the film is how he abandons all his gay friends in the ballroom without blinking an eye so he can head off with Josh Lucas and Co.

Not as "interesting" as the meet-cute dialogue between Josh Lucas and Jacinda Barrett (who?)!

Does Josh take his shirt off in this movie?

No.

Josh needs to stop accepting all the roles that Matthew McConaughey has passed on. He is a bomb magnet.

Huh.

I thought it was fine for what it was. A silly summer popcorn flick. I was frustrated that Josh Lucas kept his shirt on the whole time but what can you do?

Our theater was similar though, I think 8 people were in it and there was constant dialogue among those watching the movie.

I heard:

"POSEIDON - where only the lily-white crackas survive."

"I've never heard of a rogue wave before."

"Now that was SOME bullshit."
