okay, not an eating story, but one year I helped my mom & aunts with the annual canning of the salsa in the fall. my job was to peel the green chile after it was roasted. it was hot green chile that i peeled for several hours. that night, my soft-skinned little hands were burning up!!!! i don't think the chilis were that hot, but just having handled them all day, i absorbed a butt load of the capsaicin. we called a doctor cuz it was serious pain for over an hour. they recommended that I hold my hands under HOT running water. that really sucked. the hot water would open up the pores to flush out the capsaicin. cold water, which actually felt better, would prolong the pain. now, i leave the women's work to the women who can handle it! http://elmadartista.tumblr.com/ http://twitter.com/madartista

I steer well clear of chilli its just not worth the pain! I have a really low threshold for spicy things. They dont even taste good, because all you get is fire!

So, this was likely not the HOTTEST thing I ever ate, but it's definately the most painful.
Years ago I was on a FIRST date. We met for dinner at a local Thai place. I ordered the Fire Noodles as hot as they come. Shortly into eating, I was getting a bite together. As I pulled my fork from the plate, one single noodle hadn't been cut through. It finally snapped and flew back and a few drops of oil went straight into my eye. I was all "OMG" and he was all "are you alright?" I played tough for a minute before the hot oil fully spread across my eye. I ran to the bathroom. I pulled out my contact and ran water over my eye. The pain eventually stopped but my eye had swollen almost completely shut. The rest of that date was a blast, yeah.

you need to slolwly immerse yourself into spice My bf HATED hot foods when we met. Over 10 years I have slowly snuck in chillis/hot spice into my cooking in increasing amounts. He still can't tolerate the spice that I can, but he can handle a fair amount of spice and likes it!

JasmineFire said: Anx said: not with those little green tomato pepper MFs...it's like sticking a wasp's nest in your mouth. actually yogurt or bread may help you out better. the heat from the peppers comes from oil and the water or the ice just washes the oil around your mouth. yogurt or bread will sop it right up. That's soooo true! I was about to mention bread. My first really bad run-in with spicy stuff occurred at my cousin's wedding reception. I was about 13 and decided I was going to eat one of these:

No I love it all - but mild! Well not that mild...but what you would think is mild would probably still be too hot for me. Every single time I say to my Mum "is it really hot?" She says "no", and it is!!! I mean I could eat it, but I wouldnt enjoy it. I love curry and mexican food, but when I make it I just dont make it very spicy, and when I eat out I dont order the really hot things. I make a pretty big pot of chilli con carne at home all the time, and put in 2 fresh red chillies though, but only a couple of the seeds as theyre the hot bit!!
