LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - "Pee-wee's Playhouse" is returning to television.


Adult Swim, Cartoon Network's late-night sister network, said Monday that it has acquired rights to all 45 half-hour episodes of the series, along with "Pee-wee's Playhouse Christmas Special." It plans to air the show at 11 p.m. Monday-Thursday starting July 10.

Adult Swim said many of the episodes have not aired on TV since the original 1986-91 run of "Pee-wee's Playhouse" on CBS' Saturday morning schedule. Pee-wee Herman alter ego Paul Reubens' career was derailed in 1991 when he was arrested for indecent exposure at a Florida porn movie theater.

The show features Pee-wee Herman welcoming various characters to his playhouse. Among the cast members are Phil Hartman, Laurence Fishburne, S. Epatha Merkerson and Natasha Lyonne.

"I'd say this was a dream come true, but I never dared to dream the 'Playhouse' would join Adult Swim's amazing lineup of cool shows!" Reubens said. "Well, maybe I did dream of it a couple of times. OK, it's a dream come true!"

"Pee-wee's Playhouse" won 22 Emmys during its original run. A complete DVD set was released in 2004.

The Adult Swim lineup also includes such shows as "Aqua Teen Hunger Force," "The Boondocks," "Robot Chicken" and "Harvey Birdman, Attorney at Law" as well as acquired series "Family Guy," "Futurama" and "American Dad."

I still wish I had my Pee Wee doll. My mom made me return it when I was a kid

My sister called me yesterday and told me about this! I AM SO EXCITED! I only own the first box set of the show... couldn't afford the second cause the first was $100! (Mind you, this was 10 years ago. )

I'm sort of a Pee Wee nut. Always have been. This is great!

i don't have cable.

but i do have every episode on DVD!

the DVD boxes are about 50 each (prolly cheaper on ebay now). For the price of the season 1 VHS, you can get both seasons

Yeah at the time,I didnt know why she made me return it. All I knew was Pee Wee was in the newspaper for something bad. And she said she didnt want it in her house,and she didnt want me walking around with it. She offered to buy me the Roger Rabbit doll instead. I declined.

I used to watch that show with my mother when I was little, we both loved it. My mom was very vocal about her displeasure when they cancelled his show just because he was caught masturbating. She used to say, "Pee Wee was playing with his wee wee...what's the big deal, all men do that!"

i don't have cable, but i've been checking out some pee-wee's playhouse dvds from the library lately. i loved the show when i was a kid, and to this day i still love it.

i love my toys--but i'm not gonna marry 'em, though! ha-ha!!!

Ebay has the sets for 30.oo

There are the Chinese issues for 10.00. It practically the same thing but not as good packaging/menu (probably) and you probably have to turn off the chinese subtitles everytime you play the discs. BUT you get all 45 episodes for 10 bucks. Not a bad deal. Besides there are NO extras on the Pee Wee Boxed sets...so they are practically the same. I did this for the full Tom and Jerry Collection (the official releases are still on volume 2 )

If it fits in with the wacky line up now it should be fine. I think they might be needing more viewer as Futurerama, Family Guy and American Dad are played out! Esp during the week with rerun after rerun. Heck Futurerama and Family guy rerun on other stations..I think. Or at least I see those on all the time.

oh my god. I just noticed the "milk, milk, lemonade, around the corner fudge is made!" gem in one of the first season's episodes. I was in SHOCK! and LMAO! I never got it before!
