Does Windows Media Player Do Anything Screwy When You Rip MP3s?

I have a hard time using Itunes to rip cds because it freezes my computer(it's updated and I've tried re-installing), so I tried using Windows Media Player and it seems to be doing OK.

But is it adding any copy protection to the MP3s I'm making? I have an Ipod, so I don't want to run into problems down the line. I have a hard time following Microsoft's website and they don't seem to mention Itunes or Ipods.
