Am going for it: FINALLLLLLLLLY Hey all, finally after years of being terrified of confronting my some of my dreams, writing ( which im doing now) singing, acting, directing etc I am going for it. Say hello to me, the actress! But I have no idea where to start. A question to all u melbourne, AU orgers, where are the acting classes here? love u all M
UPDATE: i applied for some positons the other day and one of them was a reply 2 an ad that wanted extras, he just rang me and wants me 2 fill in some forms and send some pics etc. yay! and there is no initial fee ( i applied 2 Blackbox management australia b4 and was excited but i learned that i had 2 pay them $ first so bye 2 that) I personally think that you should pay nothing to them upfront. UPDATE AGAIN: was soo excited but the email was from BlackBox. Oh well. [Edited 6/5/06 0:53am]

i would start out slow...try local/regional theatre...it will help you learn the process, and determine if you have the chops...

Some would say we are all actors. We start studying as babies, seeing how others respond to one another. I would check out local resorces if I were you. I am sure there are dozens of local film makers who could use a new actor. You might check myspace, they have several film type lines of connections. There is also many many other ways of finding your way into a indy film. News: Prince pulls his head out his ass in the last moment.
Bad News: Prince wasted too much quality time doing so. You have those internalized issues because you want to, you like to, stop.

Congrats!!! Good Luck!

That is so cool, missmad, that you are following your dreams. I say, go for it, you never know until you try. RIP, mom. I will forever miss and love you.

Good on you Missmad! If that's what you really want to do with all your heart and soul then you go for it, lass I was just talking to someone about this the other day. I got flack from my peoples for pursuing what I wanted to do in life. Don't be afraid of any hurdles that may lay before your aspirations. You know within yourself that you're talented and strong enough to challenge them

congrats! and my advice to you, as having been an actor and director in one of my previous lives, is this:
1. don't be afraid to start small. do you have community theaters? check 'em out and see when they're holding auditions. even if you just get cast as a person holding a torch in the background, you'll get to see how things work and you'll get to hang out with other actors with varying degrees of experience. this is very helpful. a lot of community theater actors have done television work. this is a good networking opportunity for you, plus you'll be out there doing your thing. even if you don't get cast in a show, you got to experience an audition - keep auditioning as much as you can. you'll figure it out and you'll get cast. 2. take an acting class and TAKE RISKS. don't be the shy one. you're wasting your money if you hold back. take chances. if you're supposed to scream in a scene, don't go "eek!" - SCREAM BLOODY MURDER. the more you dredge up out of yourself, the better it feels, and the more people will react to it. no better place to hone your risks than in an acting class. that's what it's there for. use it to its fullest extent. 3. if you can't get the work you want, CREATE IT. that's right. you wanna perform in something that showcases you perfectly? find a scrungey little black box venue, find (or WRITE) material that you're passionate about, find a director (or direct it yourself if you feel confident about it), and get that sucker on a stage. that's what i did MANY times when i didn't like the options around me. as a matter of fact, that's what got me interested in directing. i got to choose the material and how it was presented. i'm not saying this is what you'll have to resort to, but it's an option. 4. NEVER let the bastards get you down. people will make you want to feel like shit. that's about them - not you. worry about yourself, not what people want you to think about yourself. good luck!

Oh well, there's always community theater that I could check out if I get nervy enough. RIP, mom. I will forever miss and love you.
