Wow, what a shambles of a game between Holland and Portugal. The referees always think if they issue some early cards it will subdue the other players - in fact, it tends to have the opposite effect and get them indignant and riled up. Four sending offs, 16 yellow cards. But it's what you get when dirty cheating bastards meet dirty cheating bastards! I lost count of the number of times Holland players fell to the floor at the slightest tap.

I think it just shows what huge pressure players are under these days, and I think that pressure is showing on England - you only have to look at Beckham throwing up after scoring the only goal - that's pressure being relieved! Probably the pressure is why England haven't shown what they are capable of yet. Probably a good sign if we can beat a team with such an all-round mediocre performance. Hopefully we will find our form just at the right time - at least 2 of Portugal's A-team can't play against us, gotta be good!

And good news is that I am 4 for 4 on my predictions so far!

One of my best friends is from england orginally (moved here when she was 11) I went with her and watched the game at an english pub today. I think every British man in Mpls was there. lol It was PACKED. And they were singing and carrying on and so forth at 10 in the morning. lol It was actually quite fun.

sorry aksel, couldn't resist. wink

i didn't see yesterdays game (mad still ticked off they're not re-airing it here! mad ) but the ref sent off as many players from holland as he did from portugal. from what i read on the play by play commentary (fifaworldcup.com) it seemed even as far as that went. was portugal just a better team? hmmm

hah! aksel.

Portugal was certainly the better team in the first half in which they scored. The game got dramatically fierce in the second half and the ref just lost total control over the game. I mean, 16 yellow, of which 4 resulting in red????? If in the second half 20 minutes of football were played, then it's much, making it totally impossible for Holland to get into the game.....Portugal, ofcourse, didn't care since they were leading.... Also, Holland was robbed of at least one penalty-shot. Figo should have gotten red for the head-kick he gave Van Bommel. Portugal wasn't better, they played the game smarter, unfortunately the game wasn't football!

It is becoming a ref farce, however last world cup Italy suffered at the hands of a ref having two perfectly good goals dissalowed. This year it went their way. And while the Aussies were a gutsy team this time round, they were never the better side today. Similarly the better side won yesterday in the absolute farce that was the Portugal Holland match. Even though I was routing for the Dutch all the way sad

I, like you, just hope the quarters are decided by great footie and not shit refs!

I think I would've preferred if we went out by Italy actually scoring a goal without this penelty thing.
Oh well.....the Aussies have copped bad decissions throughout all their games and I'm not surprised with this last one. confused
