Oh, I could so easily turn this thread's topic into something else. lol

Turn it into what? A hat? A brooch? A pterradactyl?

WHAT THE HELL DO YOU PUT IN A VEGETARIAN BURRITO THAT YOU DON'T PUT IN A VEGETARIAN TACO?!?!? mad

You don't put lettuce in a burrito! lol

Alright, for you, Mel!ssa.
I'm no expert, but after dining with Darin (being that he lives off of mexican food) for years I have figured a few things out:
Soft shell tacos use smaller tortillas and are left open. Burritos are generally larger and are all closed and rolled up. In tacos, you'll throw everything on the inside (meat and/or beans, salsa, cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, onions, cilantro, what have you...), whereas for burritos, the fresh veggies will generally come on the side. Only the meat or beans, grilled veggies (if its a veggie burrito) and possibly cheese or rice will be on the inside. And you'll generally serve a side of lettuce and salsa and other goodies to load on the top.
Also - no one ever puts rice in a taco. But it comes in some fast food burritos, though rarely in any burritos in an actual Mexican restaurant. hmmm
I think that should clear things up.
PS - It really does make a difference in texture and tastes. nod

THANK you! worship

Now, I've had plenty of closed-all-the-way-up things calling themselves soft tacos. But the location of the cold stuff seems like a reasonable distinction to me. nod

eeeeewwwww!!!!

But then it gets all wilty and stuff. See, that's the beauty of a burrito. It's all warm and steamy inside. And then you can put the cripsy veggies and sour cream and all that on top. And it the combo of the different temperatures is awesome.
Whereas a taco is more like a luke warm sandwich. And everything's kinda cold. lol

But I like wilty lettuce boxed boxed
heart prince I never met you, but I LOVE you & I will forever!! Thank you for being YOU - my little Princey, the best to EVER do it prince heart

Wait, tacos can have grilled veggies. Tacos can have both hot and cold stuff, whereas burritos have only hot stuff (with cold stuff on the side).

Right, Carrie? confuse

At every mexican restaurant I've ever dined at, yes. That's the way it goes.

i guess tacos COULD have grilled veggies. i've just never seen it. i don't think the world would blow up if you put grilled veggies in a taco, but i just figured it was taco etiquette or something. shrug

Whew. For a second I thought I was still messed up on this point.

I should probably write it on my hand and refer to it throughout the day, just to make sure I've got it. nod

Of course, once it's grilled veggies in an 'open' soft shell, then it's more of a fajita than a taco.

Taco Time puts grilled veggies in their soft tacos.

I need to write those Taco Time fuckers a letter, though. They are wrapping their soft tacos burrito-style, causing people like myself great confusion. mad

probably they do this because it doesn't feel natural for them to put grilled veggies in a taco shell. whistling

Oh. My. Gawd.

Ok, that's it. Close the border, and ship the Mexicans home. Tell them to take their fuckin' taco/burrito/fajita nonsense with them. And Darin, if they must. 'Cause I can't take it. disbelief

Mel, you're out of fucking control. falloff

Why do I assume the rest of the country eats tacos and burritos more than American food? I NEED TO VENTURE OUTSIDE OF LITTLE MEXICO! I don't know if my body will be able to handle the food transition when I'm up there this summer. I'll be staking out taquerias like a lunatic for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

I like them both ways, but soft is usually easier to eat on the go, so that's usually what I get. Either way works though.
